What private loans are you using?

    Advertisements

Hi fellow aspiring vets, just wondering if anyone else was getting as frustrated as I with wondering which lender I should go with (in addition to the St. George's Vet Private Sub/unsub loans).

Does anyone have any alternative lenders they would suggest outside of Ed Invest?

I know the med students have several options, but I don't think there are any alternatives other that what the school offers for vet students.

I could be wrong. I have never heard any of my classmates mention anything about it either.

Please post if you find anything.

Well after doing a bit of digging, I believe Sallie Mae does offer loans to us. I spoke to them over the phone and requested clarification on whether or not we would be eligible for the private signature loans b/c our program isn't doesn't have title 4 (whatever that means) approval. The woman responded that our school itself did and that b/c of that I seemed to meet all the eligibility terms for the loan.

I was told the same for Banc of America. I will also be looking into Keybank (don't know if I'm eligible for that yet though) and some other banks. Let me know if you guys have any info regarding these programs.

I know this is off topic, but do you happen to know which loans are avail. to med students? They strongly suggest Ed-invest and I wanted to know what else was out there.

This has definitely been discussed in the med forum. I would do a search there because I have no idea.

AFAIK, you have more options than vet students though.

    Shop around

I highly suggest you do some shopping around. I know that Sallie Mae, Banc of America and (at least they used to) Keybank loan to the Med students. Since SGU and the medical program is Titled IV you also can apply to federal grad plus loans which offered locked interest rates. I believe that you only need your parents to co-sign with you. Once again though I'm not 100% about all of this info, but I know that the med students have a lot more options. Don't let them push you into Ed Invest if you're not comfortable taking that loan. While it's pretty on par with a number of other private loans I'm sure that there are better deals out there.
