My husband and I will be moving there in January 2008. Can anyone recommend good places to eat where we can trust the food? Is only fish available as a meat there? Thanks!

I am not sure I am the best person to answer this because I am not very discrete in my diet (i.e. i will eat just about anything).

It wasn't the case for me, but from what I hear some people have some relatively minor problems adjusting gastrointestinally to food here. This makes some sense because you will be exposed to some new "flora" in the food which is usually just different that what you're used to. To put it bluntly, you'll have a bout of diarrhea or 2. I brought down a giganto bottle of loperamide but have only used it once or twice.

What I am trying to say is that most places are pretty much ok to eat.

Fish is readily available as is lambie (conch), lobster (when it is in season), lots of chicken and eggs, mutton, goat (chevre??), and yes, beef. I don't eat a whole lot of beef here. When I do it is usually the prepackaged frozen ground beef from the supermarket.

A very select few in the general True Blue area are:

On TB campus at Pearls/Glovers and the Sugar Shack
    True Blue Bay resort
    Bananas
    Coconut Beach
Boulangerie (spelling?)...which seems to have mostly italian food despite the French name for bakery (yes, they do bake also)
Carib Sushi: I like sushi and eat there fairly commonly
The newish wine bar next to carib sushi
all the resorts along grand anse beach have restaurants
Rumors: a vegetarian restaurant just a little bit further off the main student areas
The ladies at grand anse campus: I eat there quite a bit

There are lots and lots more and it might be a good idea to do a search within the med school forum as there are quite a few threads on this subject there.
