Yeah you are in a classroom for the week getting handouts and listening to people talk. You'll get your schedules for the year at some point that week.

Orientation is from the 21st till the 25th. And rotations start on the 29th. Do we get the weekend off in the middle ? I wanted to make a quick trip to meet some family members.

It's Memorial Day weekend. I don't think they would be making us start on a holiday weekend.

It's been almost two years but here's what I remember:

First day there's breakfast and coffee. Enjoy it as there are not too many free meals at St. Barn.

You'll get your ID on the first day. Bring $14 cash or check. Don't kid yourself that you'll get it back. When I turned in my ID they sent me a check months later that bounced (seriously).
On the first day you'll also get your schedule for the week and for your rotations (if I'm remembering correctly). You'll meet the other people in your track. You'll get to know these people very well. Pray that you don't have too many toolbags.
One of the days you learn to start IVs (you practice on each other), foley placement in males and females (you do NOT practice on each other) and some other simple procedures.
There will be endless lectures given to you most of which are not terribly helpful. One of them will be all the abbreviations you're not allowed to use when writing orders which won't be a problem because you'll never write orders.
One day you'll do an H&P on a pt at St. Barn (usually 2 students / pt) and one day you'll do an H&P on a pt at NBI (2 students / pt). This is just to give you some practice. You'll present your pt to one of the IM residents. Bring your white coats and stethoscopes.
We got a lecture from the IM chief resident about how to do an H&P.

We had 9 students / track. You'll do IM, surgery and psych together. For OB/GYN and peds they are split between St. Barn and NBI. Your track will need to decide who goes to which hospital for those rotations. If you fail to come to an agreement DL will simply decide for you.
I don't remember them feeding us lunch so be prepared to bring your own or buy food in the cafeteria. The food is good (for a hospital) and they have a reasonable selection. The same cannot be said for NBI.

If you start on Surgery at St. Barn you'll get some training on how to scrub in and be less likely to be thrown out on your first day.

You'll be there roughly until 3 to 5 pm each day. I think Friday was only a half day.

no no no...its ok for you to spam the who thread since that is its point, but do not go and clutter up threads with useless banter (that is what the banter thread is for...).
