Depends on a lot of things. What are you applying for? How strong of a candidate are you overall (not just versus other IMG's)? How many of the places would you actually want to spend the next so many years of your life?

there was a study done by the nrmp a few years ago that showed having 10 programs on the ROL = ~ 90% chance of matching and having 15 brought that number up to 95% (it was late and work was long)...but as golding said, there are other factors involved...

I was advised once to only NOT list a program if I would honestly, in my heart of hearts, rather remain unmatched for the year than train there. I think that's pretty sound advice.

How many programs are you dealing with? How strong are your stats? How were the interviews? As rok and Golding mentioned above, there are a lot of factors that come into play...

I know it's just a typo, but does it go up to 95%? 99%?

pediatrics. 240 on step 1 + 2. I think interviews went well to the places i consider my top choices.

a little uncertain how far from home i should go for a better program vs stay close to home in a program that's not as good.

    So far, so good!

Only you can make that determination. For me, I'd take a "Have Stethoscope, Will Travel" outlook for the right programs... Good luck!

Okay. I posed this at another thread but no responses. I've gotten three prematch offers (Upstate, Albany, Allegheny). Upstate was my number one choice until I interviewed at UMass, which impressed me so much. Now, I'm not sure if I should accept the prematch offers, or go on my remaining interviews (UMDNJ, St. Luke's Roosevelt, ULouisville, UMDNJ, UHawaii) just to be sure that there's no sleeper hit like UMass. I expect Upstate to be within my top 3 choices for my ROL. Would it make sense to just go with that versus the uncertainty of not matching? So hard...
