    WOW!!!

if this becomes real.....wow what a coup will THAT be...UMDNJ teaching hospitals have the potential to be considered SGU teaching hospitals....

and who is going to be able to question the validity of those clinical rotations when there is an oversight committee that answers to the Dean of UMDNJ....

At Hackensack, SGU students and UMDNJ students are already rotating together in the same teams on the same rotations, with the same residents and attendings, going to the same trainings, grand rounds, morning rounds, have lunch together, and go to the same meetings etc.. there hasn't been any conflicts (at least outwardly) and the students are mostly cool and get along. So, there is really no difference in the training so far. The SGU clerkships at Hackensack also had to be approved by UMDNJ and have UMDNJ oversight (according to director of med education). The only difference is that SGU students aren't taking shelf exams (UMDNJ students are) and some of the clerkship directors are different.

    Pretty cool.
But I have a slightly tangential question. I heard once that SGU was offered the chance to become a US school if it would decrease its class size, but our main man rejected the offer. Did this really happen?

that rumor has been floating around for quite some time...until the LCME is the accrediting body for the caribbean (and it won't be for the forseeable future) they will not be able to govern sgu.

a foreign school WAS once an LCME school...the American Univ of Beirut...but rules changed and they are no longer able to be one (they are also the only foreign school with an AOA chapter)...if AUB couldn't stay an LCME school, its not likely a foreign school can now become one.
