    SGU Clinical and Residency Ques.

    Advertisements

    Hey All,

I was interested in applying to SGU Med School for either Aug 2011 or Jan 2012. However, while navigating through there website I didn't see much about residency. If any one can answer my ques I would appreciate it. I wanted to know what type of residency you can specialize in once you graduate from SGU as I was interested in Anesthesiology or Radiology depending upon my step 1 & step 2 scores.

Also, has anyone from SGU did the basic science and clinical years in UK? and what was the experience like?

    Thanks

    -Munzir

The residency list is up at SGU's website.

    This year's match list.

Regarding the UK do a search for GSP and/or Global Scholar's Program and you'll get plenty of stuff. An important new piece of information for the GSP is that students in that program no longer qualify for federal student loans. That has also been discussed on the forum if you do a search.

    Good luck.

I was not aware of the Federal Loans. Is there a certain reason, like the economy. This means SGU is more expensive since you will be funded through a private loan with Variable rates.

Which Caribbean schools qualify for Fed aid? Did SGU take it away due to the economy, which means it will be much more expensive since you have to be funded through a private company with variable rates.

Only the GSP does not have the Federal loans. If you do the 2 years of basic science in Grenada, then you would get federal loans (unless this has also changed).

    Hey,

I haven't done thorough research yet, SGU is a backup if I don't get into State schools. I have to take my MCATS in the summer I am just planning ahead. Yes, I saw the residency placements, majority are Emergency Med or Internal. I am assuming specializing in Anesthesiology or Rad must be tough to get into from a Caribbean school.

So you are applying to SGU for Aug 2011 or Jan 2012, but you haven't yet taken the MCAT... and SGU is a backup?? That makes absolutely no sense.
