2 urgent questions before starting rotations

    Advertisements

Ok so I had two questions for which I would be extremely thankful if they're answered................just to get some direction talking to the people at kern medical center

    1) I got my Hep B vaccines years ago. I also got the Hep B antibody titer done. The problem is, the titer showed up negative last year when I had it done......... I was wondering...is this acceptable? ( thought it should be since I have proof of my vaccines) and if not ........then do I get booster shots and re-titered?

    2) I was also told in the email that I need to be fitted for or pass a mask respirator test before coming to kern..............does anybody know anything about this and where I get this done? Does kern do it?

I would really appreciate your guys' help here.

According to the instructions for completing clinical placement health forms:

If the hepatitis B titer result indicates non-immunity, you will satisfy SGU requirements by submitting proof of one additional vaccine after the titer result date.

I'm not going to Kern, but I needed to be certified for a respirator and was fitted and tested with a 3M N95 respirator by a guy from my local fire department. Maybe start there if Kern doesn't do it.

No, it was during the whole SARS incident and so he came to us. I just thought the local fire guys might know of somewhere you can get it done. The person usually needs to be an OSHA certified fit tester. My question is that you are certified to a specific brand of respirator (usually 3M), so I wonder if Kern can at least let you know which brand they use since it would be a waste of time to be fitted and certified for a respirator they don't use.

My understanding is that each hospital has respiratory fit testing, Kern included. You will get a card after the testing that you should not lose, because other hospitals may require it.

why don't you call up Kern and ask them about the mask fittings. as for hep B you need to have adequate antibody titers, who cares if you got all 3 vaccines if you don't have titers you're not immune and that's what's really important. you'll probably need a booster shot and get retested for titers.
