    Question about timeline for AMCAS

    Advertisements

    Hello

I am on track to finish 4th year in the fall of 2010, so I hope to graduate in december 2010. I think this puts me in the 2011 match. When do I start doing AMCAS stuff? Any advice as to when I should take step 2 to have the scores for applications? I'm trying to figure it out, but graduating in december makes it weird. If anybody has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks yall

1st its ERAS for residency not AMCAS, AMCAS is for med school.

as for timeline...search the residency forum, i think there is a sticky on ERAS timeline as a matter of fact.

most people don't aim for a dec grad if say they were jan term (aug term that go behind maybe), they take time off for CK and CS, interviews, vacation, etc...graduating in dec has its advantages...you can be ECFMG certified and have the PTAL in hand for match, but really outside of Cali, its not that big a deal, ECFMG verified is good enough...but remember if you have loans, they will start to tick from dec...your grace will run out before you start residency and you aren't able to defer anymore- you have to pay something.

    for 2011 match...
register and apply using ERAS and NRMP in july of 2010, get the token to start ERAS around june 2010

you should try and aim to have step 2 ck and cs in by sept 2010 if possible

and graduating in december is nice but dont forget the grace period of the loans which will kick in and you dont start residency until 7/2011 (that is if you have matched)

yep like said above. get your token in late june and start sending in your letters of rec, writing your personal statement if you haven't written one till then and work on your CV the actual application can be done in like 2 hours if you have your CV and PS written. also you should take the CK sometime late July early Aug to have the results in early sept. or better yet by Sept. 1st which is when the application goes out. also you need to have passed the CS by mid Feb at the latest which is when the Rank Order list is due. you can find all this info on the eras website.
