Kaplan Step 2CK notes as study tools?

    Advertisements

I'm in my first rotation, psych, and it seems like this is going to be very different from the rest of my third year. Is studying the kaplan step 2CK notes an adequate way to prepare for exams and, obviously, step 2? I figure we will use a regular ref text like harrison or ferri for specific patients we see, but as a general rule are those kaplan notes good enough? Thanks

i think so. maybe supplement with some other sources. I heard for peds and ob-gyn blue-prints books are great, for surgery surgical recall is all you need, and for medicine i heard step-up to medicine is great. so those books and the kaplan books should be more than enough.

From my experience I would completely agree with RussianJoo. This is what I used and I did fine:

    Surgery-Recall
    IM-Step Up
    Ob/Gyn-CK Notes
    Peds-CK Notes
    Psych-CK Notes

Note: I never picked up Blue Notes but I heard they're great if you need more prep.

i really didn't like blueprints for anything other than ob/gyn (the pysch one wasn't worth the money i used to copy it ..and i copied it for free...)..the ob/gyn one was as good as the text (and i read both)...

for peds the kaplan notes were quite good...

agree with what rj had to say for the rest...

You've got an excellent strategy. Use the CK notes during your rotations and do your highlighting and note taking. It's completely adequate preparation for the exams at the end of each rotation and the material won't be unfamiliar to you when you get ready to study for the boards. Studying for step 2 will go by much more quickly.

I used ck notes for everything but I also used surgical recall for surgery because many of those questions you will get pimped on during that rotation.

Psych notes - good though I used some of first aid for psych which I thought was excellent

    Medicine - excellent
    Surgery - good
    Ob/gyn - mediocre. I supplemented with blueprints
    Peds - good
