AUA versus All Saints University Dominica

    Advertisements

I am planning to apply to both of these right after I complete my highschool in Canada.

The AUA program is 6 years and the All Saints Dominica program is 5 years.

I was wondering, in terms of recognition, which of these universities is better?

I would choose All Saint's Over AUA.
Now i know alot of people well have problem with this but hear me out

    1) All Saints just on friday was recognized By House of Commons in Parliamnet of Canada, AUA was not

    2) The president of Canuks Studying medicine Aboard goes to all saints

    3) Students have already got recognized by American Thoracic Soceity , AUA students have gotten residency but thats only because the school is older.

    4) premed in AUA and All Saints is the Same

BUT THE MOST IMP factor for you is this
    After extensive research:

AUA/KMC twinning program will not be recognized For Medical Counsel Of Canada (MCC) contact them your self they will tell you, even though they are NY approved.

    5) AUA is way more expensive then All Saints and in the end you ll be the same DOC that you wanted to be.

In 2 years All saints will be in the same field with AUA, Specailly with the help of Canadian Politicians which already they know about this school thanks to Dr.H;s Connections.

go to AUA, ASUM hasn't been arount too long, and it seems the stability of the school is in question.

    1) All Saints just on friday was recognized By House of Commons in Parliamnet of Canada, AUA was not

who cares? how does this affect the school? every caribbean school that can afford lobbyists in congress or has legislators on its board of directors can get "honored" by the legislative body - example here.

    2) The president of Canuks Studying medicine Aboard goes to all saints

once again, who cares? apparently this president of canucks studying abroad didn't get into saba or another school that has a high placement rate in Canadian residency programs.

    3) Students have already got recognized by American Thoracic Soceity , AUA students have gotten residency but thats only because the school is older.

I'm pretty sure it was one of your professors and not a student and awards like that are not uncommon even in the Caribbean.

    4) premed in AUA and All Saints is the Same

    Really, how so?

BUT THE MOST IMP factor for you is this
    After extensive research:

AUA/KMC twinning program will not be recognized For Medical Counsel Of Canada (MCC) contact them your self they will tell you, even though they are NY approved.

I don't know what that means - "AUA/KMC .... will not be recognized". The school doesnt seek any special privileges under the twinning program, and therefore shouldn't have any more or less of a problem getting its alumni into residency in canada than any other foreign school.

    5) AUA is way more expensive then All Saints and in the end you ll be the same DOC that you wanted to be.

No you won't - you can practice in fewer places if you do your rotations at All Saints. Until All Saints publishes evidence that it offers all Greenbook core rotations to all its clinical students, there is no reason to consider this school.

lol... good post sree, seriously i dont know who this mona person is, but he/she is a prime example of how one person can ruin a schools rep, really mona can u plz stop making ridiculous post like these. i thought u posted a while ago sayin that ur done with medical school and ur not associated with this shcool anymore and not to read ur posts, coming from ur fellow school mate, if u do infact go to our school, i dont care about the house of commons nor dose anyone else, just try to post ur honest opinion cuz ur making us look bad, and plz ive noticed this more than one of ur post, use spell check, occasional mistakes are fine but "Canuks Studying medicine Aboard". All potential students and others reading this, i recommend u ignoring posts made by mona, b/c ur goning to get wrong ideas about our school.

moving on to more important things, the question about AUA VS ASUSM, its a personal choice ur going to have to make i will just list wat i know, most important of them being tuition u save about $5000, then class sizes, aua ur amongs hundreds, our largest class is about 30 students, if ur looking for loans neither school has them, but u can always get private line of credits. Offcourse AUA has grads, NY accred, getting back to green book cores sree mentioned, we do have most of them, may be not all, but u have to look at how long our school is been open, AUA is been open longer, will will have all green in short while (but ive heard some say we dot have all of them, only real way to know is call the office urself), dont ask me to give u a date, for an outsider lookin at our school, the only way they will believe our school is growing is if they see NY accred, but as a student i c more, i see little things changing every semester, that makes me believe our school is heading in the right direction, every school needs time to grow, ppl can bash our school as mush as they want now, i cant stop them, nor do i care, but in time our progress will shut their mouths, its ur choice to make end of day, weigh ur options and make the choice u think is right for u. if u have any specific questions plz pm me.

I would first attempt to get into a Canadian University - study hard and do well, then attempt to get into a Canadian or US medical school.

If you failed in that and have a very good GPA due to the hard work and study you did in undergrad - then go to SGU, Saba, AUC, Ross, AUA, MUA-N or St Matt's. If you could not get into these schools then consider the lessor island medical schools. Doing a pre-med at an island school is a waste of time and money for the most part. Generally, students who skip important steps in school in the field of medicine have it come back and bite them big time. As of yet ASUM, has no grads. From what we know of people who have done the pre-med thing - it is totally worthless at ASUM.

Saba, SGU have students get Canadian residencies! Do your research! Don't take short cuts. If you do you will find that many island school pre-med types don't pass the Step 1 - because they skipped important classes you get as an undergrad in US and Canadian Universities. THINK!

I call it like I see it. I am not paid by ValueMD or any school. Nor do I recruit for any school.

    AUA is better

Does ASUM even have all greenbook cores anyways? You won't be a doc if the state doesn't give you a license based off state approval or ACGME clinicals.
