    I'm back!

    Advertisements

This thread title will probably get me an infraction from the moderator but I havent posted on here in a loooonnnngg time. Things are probably exactly the same. Now that I have a bit more time I will be reaching out to those who want real advice and giving unsolicited opinions to the rest of you. I see wolfgang is still the moderator here I'm sure he remembers my glory days of epic thread wars. Glad to be back but hope everyone else has gotten the spots they wanted.

    Hey darkmansaad,

How's residency? From my understanding you're an Anesthesiology resident. What rotations do you feel like helped you prepare for residency? I'm applying to Anesthesia this year,

Speak of the devil! I remember you from the 2011 match thread - both the memorable name and the memorable match. Real advice and unsolicited opinions are most welcome. It's been rather quiet around here for a while...

Payme2 - Yes I am wrapping up CA2 year and just got told I am one of the Chief Residents. I am applying for Cardiac Anesthesia which is a match this year and will find out June 17 if/where I match. Feels like 4th year of med school again stressing out about a match...this never ends!

Anesthesia is an awesome field. ER really helped, doing 2 months of ICU as a med student REALLY helped. Just be good on your physiology and the rest comes naturally as even if you come across a clinical scenario that is unfamiliar you can navigate it easily with your knowledge of how the cardiac and respiratory systems function. Good luck! Try to do an away rotation at a good site such as the Mayo Clinic. They let any med student do 4 weeks there so apply NOW!!! Application is very long but worth it...go for it!

Thanks for your advice. Hope one day I'll get into a residency and join the ranks of residents. It is a long way to go for me.

Whats up? This forum is dead quiet these days. No more arguments on here? No more clinical rotation advice? Interesting. Anyway wanted to share some exciting news. Heading to Mass General for Fellowship in Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia! Boo yah!

It wasn't easy. Had my own program director sit me down and tell me to not apply to top programs and "adjust my expectations" realistically.
