This years match was hard. So get ready!

Its been a while since I came on here, and it was funny to hear all the crying about first semester grades and stats. If anything, its good practice for what awaits you when you leave the island. I got about 15 interviews, and went to 13 of them, cause I thought I was safe. I ended up scrambling, and thankfully matched. But talking with the program directors, this year they had more applications than ever before. One program in Rochester said that for 150 interview slots they had 5000 applications. He said that the fact that we even were there for an interview should make us happy. It didnt make me happy, but I got the point. I hear the reason was that the UK closed its spots to IMGs and so here they come! As well as DO and increased US grads, you people now in first will have an even harder time. Doesnt mean its all over before it began, but do well on your steps, and make a good impression in your clinicals. And by good impression I dont mean be that med student who thinks they know more than the attending, residents, aggressive mean, you know who I mean, they sit next to you in class on saba.
Good luck newbies, and to my new patients come july1!

Wow that is frightening...13 interviews seems like a guarantee. What were your stats, and what did you apply to? Why do you think you didn't match when you ranked 13 schools?

    Congrats on the match.

For the lower year SABANS: Its definately tough but its nothing to fret over. Do good on Boards, do good on rotations, get solid letters and you have laid a great foundation for matching.

Then its simply prepping up for the interview and presenting yourself professionally and you cannot lose.
