    Calling Home - Ut oh!

    Advertisements

To all of the AmericaOneMD users out there - it's no longer available here. DOH!

So, anyone have another way of calling home without maxing out the credit cards?

    phone

    Well, Shauna.......

From what i understand, you got two options....get yourself a landline and have your parents call you. Or get yourself a cell phone and have your parents call you. Incoming calls are free, and your parents will pay a rate a lot less to call you, than you will to call them.

Thats what i have my parents do right now.

Well, i lie, there is a third option. You could hook up two tin cans with a looooooooooooooooooong piece o` string. Haven`t done that since i was a kid, but it works pretty well. Never have i appreciated the physics of string so much

    Hey

Here's another thread addressing this issue on the AUC forum.

    Phones

    Chemist,
You're not funny. Remember I know where you live, and I'm bigger than you.

    Wolf,
Thanks for the link! I'm checking it out now.

    Isterra

We just signe dup with a company called Isterra through ICS in Windwardside. Callback service similar to AmericaOneMD except they charge more (29 cents per minute). I'm not shilling for them (don't report me to myself Steph ), but I thought you might want to know of another option. I'll let you know how it works once we;ve been with them for a little while.

    Best of Luck!

    Another option may be:

    http://www.cards4students.com

They have service out of SXM, so I presume that it would be no stretch to imagine that they have service to Saba. Rates comparable to americaonemd but with infinitely better service.

    Aloha,

    cell phones

I went to a few cell phone dealers and they said that I will be charged for incoming calls, which contradicts what was said in this thread. Am I supposed to come to the island and buy/setup a new cell phone on the island with a local company?

    "Medvantage" card

Has anyone bought a "medvantage" card from cards4students.com? It was listed under St. Maarten, not Saba, but the rates are substantially lower than any card listed under Saba. The link is here: http://www.cards4students.com/p&r_selection.asp

The price per minute from the N.A. to the U.S on this card is listed as 20c/minute, compared to the Saba card (same web site) which says 79c/minute.

The page specifically mentions those studying at Ross, AUC, or Saba as their target market.

Thank you for any insight anyone can provide on this topic.

    Marla

    Calling home...

Hey Swingingislanddoc.... or Shawna.... who ever you are...

IF you parents have internet.... you can always use skype... it is what My roomie and I use... we just pay internet fees... Let me tell you it is awesome.... depending on the quality of headphones and mic you have... it definitely sounds like the person is the same room..
