Can any current saba student comment on health insurance???

    Advertisements

ok, no one seems to be interested in the health insurance thread I posted previously.
Does that mean that med students on saba don't get sick? (that seems impossible to believe)

I was wondering if any current saba student could comment on Heritage Insurance that saba students can get.

Are there any other options for individuals seeking health insurance while in school?

    Thanks alot!

Like the island's Nagico car insurance, I don't think this health insurance is actually good for anything. A lot of people (myself included) get their own separate health insurance (and no, I don't know any good ones - hopefully someone else does )

If you don't mind me asking, how do you get your own separate health insurance plan if you're a student? I mean I know up to a certain age (23?) I think you can still be under your parents' health plan (United States), but for single individuals over 23, what other options exist?...anyone?

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I used it when my COBRA insurance from my old job ran out.
It's basically catastrophic indemnity insurance, not good for much else because of the $500 deductible you have to come up with before the insurance kicks in. Basically, here in the U.S. you can get a full physical including an EKG, complete metabolic panel, lipid profile, liver function tests, urine analysis for just under that amount, so it's not too useful for health maintenance in my experience, but better than no insurance if you should break a bone or something because you tripped on a rock outside of swinging doors on Saba after drinking too many heinekens. I never found a cheaper alternative myself for the same coverage outside of employer plans, but I have seen others get their own insurance with a lower premium payment and a higher deductible, such as with blue cross/blue shield. A friend of mine says she got a good deal like that on ehealthinsurance.com.
