Dorm full - got an apartment - is this good?

    Advertisements

    Hey guys
Just found out from the housing coordinator that there is a dorm overflow this semester and that I am being put up in a three bedroom apartment.
Should I be worried about this - or is this a better option than the dorm?
Maybe its nothing to worry over - but I actually was looking forward to staying in the dorm. I'm also worried that it will cost more now.

    Suprising Numbers

I'm a little worried. I know this upcoming May semester the dorms are full and they have no private available. In all 36 room there are 2 students per room. That means that there must be 72 students coming for May 2004. That is not including the married students and the students that need to stay at some apartment. Where is the promise to not exceed 50-60 stuents? I mean this is the major reason I wanted to go to Saba. Do I have calculations wrong? Please help. Thanks

    dorms

I believe that 2-5 semester students are not allowed living in the dorms... these are reserved only for the newbies...

But it is still disconcerting that the dorms are filling up so quickly?!

    dorm capacity

I think you have your calculations wrong:

It says on the saba website underdorm arrangements that the dorm can accomodate 38 students based on double occupancy - which would mean a total of 19 rooms - not 36.

    Good call!

I agree with mattbrett... his calculations are reasonable and in line with what is stated by SABA.

    makes sense

Basically, a lot of single, unmarried people are coming in for May (some of which will be put into apartments). I hope September is not like this. Does anyone know when we have to contact the housing coordinator regarding dorm rooms? I have exams right now, so I'm hoping I can do this in May (I enter in Sept).

    Dorms

    Stitches,
It's typical that there are some first semesters who don't stay in the dorm. Kenny apparently has plans to build on to the dorms, but that hasn't started yet.

I got to the island late and ended up in an apartment - they will find a place for you to live if not in the dorm. I am personally glad I didn't have to live in the dorm, but some liked it. Don't worry so much about it. And living out of the dorms will cost about the same as living in the dorms.

    moving in

Hello everyone who are starting in May,

How long before classes are you allowed to move into the dorms? Can you move in a week before the classes start or less? I am asking cause I will get my plane tickets based on that. I am starting in Sept.

    Thanks in advance.
