    Personal Statement

    Advertisements

I am having a very hard time writing my personal statement. I have done about 5 drafts and don't really like any of them. Would anyone who has been accepted mind sending me a copy of theirs so I can get some type of idea of what they are looking for. It would be most greatly appreciated because I think this would be the weakest part of my application.
    Thanks

If you are not in a rush... put the statement off for a while.. maybe like a couple of weeks .. if you can... and then come back to it... it will be easier for you to build / modify / and make better on what you already have... good luck...

I doubt anyone will send you a copy....saba keeps everything you send in "for the record" and I don't think anyone wants to have another person write a similar letter.

I would suggest you write from the heart. It sound sappy but if you are really dedicated and motivated to be a doctor it will make an incredible personal statement. It doesn't even have to be a well structured essay - just answer the questions requested with the utmost truth. Be yourself. Come interview time, you should adhere to the ideas and beliefs expressed in your personal statement should they ask you a question relating to it.

    you could

you could also google medical essays to get an idea of where to start. I know the accepted.com has sample essays you can look at and also editors to help you fine tune the essay.

when you're done, I suggest sending it to various people so they can proofread it. they might find mistakes you missed.

but really, they want to know about you and why you have a passion for medicine. and if you screwed something up in your life, you could also explain how you've grown from that experience and what you would do differently now.....those are just suggestions! good luck writing it! It took me five weeks to get my final draft finished, so I know what you are going through.

I guess it would be a long shot to get someone to let me read theirs. To copy would be stupid so I have no intentions. I just wanted to have something to compare it to. I am in a rush to get it done. My biggest problem is making it interesting. I know they read 100'S of these essays so I want to find a unique angle. Thanks for trying to help me out.

I read some book full of medical essays, and I wrote drafts explaining points I wanted to express and all that. And it always sounded like garbage.

So one night, I just scrapped everything and let my mind work. And it all came out, and sounded decent. At least, it sounded like I would tell my story in person.

Don't force it. Just say what comes naturally.

I know this isn't what you want. But I don't even if I've got a digital copy of my personal statement left.

    yeah, same here, haha.
the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides and a dark wind blows. the government is corrupt and we're on so many drugs with the radio on and the curtains drawn. we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine and the machine is bleeding to death.

Thanks for the added pressure. LOL
Shriner, you gave me some help. I think no matter what I do I am not going to be happy because to be honest I'm not the most creative writer to say the least.
