    Advertisements

    hi all,
i've chosen russia as the place where i will persue my medical studies
i've been given 2 choices which are rsmu and mma
somehow or rather, i cant find much differences between the two and ,yes
    i am in a dillema.
i would like to hear, if possible, first hand experience of rsmu, mma, russian med. school students on this matter and your advice.
what are the pros and cons for both rsmu and mma?
    thanks.

Out of curiosity, why did you choose Russian schools over other schools?

I know this question isn't inteded for me, but I for one thought about Russian schools for the main reason that they are a lot cheaper than other schools and I guess cheaper to live in too.

I have not found a med school in the other regions, though, that is cheaper than 9000 $ US.

lols..well in where i live, malaysia, there isnt any "good" medical schools. No offence but thats my opinion from what I see and read. but the reason i chose russia over all the other countries ,well 50% goes to the money and the other 50% is very much because of the good reports i;ve heard of russia .
It is ,as claimed by the internet, even this website, ranked among the top medical schools internationally.

I'd be interested in seeing any report you know of that rates a Russian med school highly today.

I know of one report that ranked Moscow Medical Academy highly but that was back in the 1980's when Soviet central planning was in full force (i.e. starve the people but fund space programs and the arms race). During the economic crisis of the 1990's I think Russian med schools (and universities) went through a severe funding crunch. Maybe they're starting to recover (funny that Russian universities do better under fairly undemocratic leaders) but I find it hard to believe that their facilities would be as good as at a typical European or North American med school.

I have a feeling you might get less individual attention at a place like MMA too (just judging from the number of students).

If you know more about this, I'd like to know. I'm very curious about Russian med schools and their clinical training--especially the program at Moscow State University. They should have a new medical facility pretty soon and I suspect it will be well equipped. Rotations anyone? (Provided you speak Russian that is.)

I'm glad that someone other than me pointed this out. (Still singed after the last flame-war with the Russians.)

well, i am ,too, glad that you gave ur opinion.
google up rsmu and mma and simply click onto any website that has infomation about the 2 U's and you find claims about them being ranked among the top 5 in the world, etc, ttp://www.cep.ru/mma.shtml being one of them
The weird thing is, in their very own(rsmu and mma's) website, none of such is mentioned.

    your 2/5/10 cents anyone?..

Why not consider China? There are a few Chinese medical schools that take a large amount of international students, and one even has a program in English. I was able to find these on Google when I was curious if there were programs in China (though right now China is not really on my list - I've applied to Saba). Some schools you could research on are Soochow University, Hebei Medical University, Jinan University (Guangzhou), Beijing University, and Fudan University. The last two are among the top two in the country, and have very rigorous programs.

Besides, Chinese would be a very useful language to learn, since it is the world's most widely spoken language.

By the way - Soochow University seems to have an agent, but there is also an application form on the real Soochow Univ. website. On the agent's website (w/ a mailing address in India), they charge $300US application fee. If you apply directly to the school, it is $30.

As for cost, tuition seems to be around US$2000-$3000 per semester.

Mikhail's website is proof that this is a top medical school

Well, let me put it this way...

Mikhail as an agent, has a vested interested in promoting the medical schools he represents.

I think it's probably a good thing that the MMA and RSMU web-sites don't make claims like this. After all, it smacks of self-promotion and isn't something you'd expect of a particularly good med school.

I really don't know anything about RSMU. As for MMA, I never said it was a bad school. Remember, the report I referred to ranked the school highly (even if it was in the 1980's). I'm just suspicious of the facilities in the leading Russian med schools today. It's a sensitive topic because of Russia's historical isolation and a perception that while a few medical fields may have been more advanced others lagged behind the west. I guess the reason I'm skeptical is because I've read a lot about the state of health care in modern Russia and there seem to be serious problems, especially with regard to facilities and access to medication.
