FORGET MMA AND RUSSIAN STATE !!!! THEY ARE CORRUPTED TO THE BONE!!

    Hi there,
I would recommend you to avoid both the MMA and the Russian state med school. there are both controlled by the same agent. the level of education is quite low and the facilities are REALLY OLD(you d feel that you are going back in time). Unless you are a student from the malaysian governmental scholarship, you will be treated as a 3rd class student and considered as a burden. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY TELL YOU IN THERE HOMEPAGE. I studied there and really can tell you a bunch about it.. the quality of education is low and the profs are DOLLAR hungry.. so dont expect to pass any major exams unless you lay the money!
if you want more advice and info.. let me know.. but one thing is for sure.. keep away from M1 and M2 (they are the respective names for MMA and Russian state med school)
you can mail me at [email protected]
    see ya!!

    MMA vs RSMU

It’s always funny when a person, who reported to study in one school, hates all the schools located in the city/country. And he/she for sure knows the right answer where to study, but does not make it public… Check the forum to find numerous notes like that.

According to 2003 Russian Ministry of Education rank of national med schools (does not include medical faculties at the classical universities) MMA keeps to be #1 in the list whereas RSMU drops to the third position (it was med school #2 in 2002, 2001…). In terms of other factors, study at RSMU was more expensive in 2004/05 whereas RSMU hostels are closer to the study building.
    With best wishes,

    Dear Mikhail

I am not saying that i hate all the schools in moscow .. I was just saying that MMA and RSMU are not what they are..
the ranking that you are mentioning are valid for the RUSSIAN students only.. because we both know good and well that the foreign students (especially in the English medium) are in a different category and do not really learn as much as what is offered to the russian students..

I actually was accepted at MGU (you sent me a letter of acceptance!) but then MGU was not WHO recognized .. and by mistake went to MMA...
the problems that i found with the MMA are the following..
I found that the administration is making sure that the student is having a hard time.. especiall the secretary Mrs OLGA SEMENOVA AND A CERTAIN LYDIA... if they decide that they do not like you .. then.. they will make your life a misery..(this did not happen to me by the way)
the faculty and administration is very hostile to foreign students...
The dean at MMA, MR Alayutdin.. NEVER spoke to me or any students..
the teaching faculty does not teach!!!!! they teach only 10% of what is supposed to be taught and then ... asks the students to study the rest themselves (i can understand that)
A lecture of 3 hours is completed within 50 minutes.. i NEVER had a lecture over 1 hour at MMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can you believe that????!!!
the profs are just too "busy".......(they just do not consider the english medium students are "actual students")
I will not talk about zachet tests...as they can only be successfully completed with $$
when the time of examination comes... ALL students pass with HONORS!!!
simply because the examination questions are the same for the past 5years.. and senior students pass them down every year.. the profs know that.. but they cant care less..
students from 4th to 6th course study in russian...and they still all pass 99% of them with HONORS.. because the profs give yes or no questions during the exams..
I wanted to do night duty in different department so that i could develop some kind of interest and decide which specialty to go into..
ALL THE MMA PROFS TURNED ME DOWN.. some even said that they do not need any disturbance.. and they did not want to..

so I respect the fact that MMA is ranked 1 but this is only on paper... when one sees the real fact.. I would not recommend MMA AT ALL!!

I therefore left the MMA and transferred to PFU..
I was not expecting anything better than MMA as i thought that " this is russia..".. well, i must admit that i was wrong..
let me compare PFU with MMA..
the faculty is definitely smaller.. as PFU is a university and the medical faculty is just one department..
the administration is just lovely!!!!!!! they talked to me slowly and were patient with my broken russian (this never happened at MMA)....they tried to understand me and were really patient..
every day.. when i go to the medical faculty.. i see the DEAN and we chat.. I see many students chatting with the dean.. and he tries to make them feel at ease...and makes sure to help them whatever the problem might be...
the faculty.. WOW.... let me tell you about the faculty.. ..I was always told that MMA had the best faculty and all that jazz.... at PFU.. the profs are speaking beautiful english...and have structured lecture and classes.. . ..to be honest.. it was hard for me to go to class as all the lessons were taught to their full extent.. and many times overextended in time..
I asked some profs (with a fearing voice!!) if i could do night duties.. their response was the same" PLEASE COME!!!"
i am now a 5th year student.. and have performed quite a few operations already in night duties (of course i was supervised) since i am in 4th year.

i could go on and on like this..
i understand that MMA has all that undeserved prestige....but why would you need the prestige if you are going to be treated as a nobody..and not being helped in your quest for knowledge...
PFU has been great to me.. and as i see all the students at PFU i think that it is the same for them...
the foreign students at PFU are more at ease (at least they seem to be) than those that i had met at MMA
    that is all.. i guess
i repeat again .. i did not mean to denigrate any russian schools..
i am just sharing my personal experience...
I know that many students will spit on PFU especially those that were kicked out..
PFU has strict rules....and has a rigorous academic program.. that is for sure..
    so the choice is clear..
go to MMA and know only 40% of what could have been learned
or go to PFU and take advantage of all that is being offered!!
if you need some info about PFU
    mail me at [email protected]

Haha..i dont know abt other ppl. My friends are there..some are 1st years and some are finishing the remaining 6th year. All are either in MMA or RSMU. Like Mikhail said..most ppl choose RSMU becuz of the close hostel. Hostels for MMA requires traveling. They say the place is great and is not as bad as people say. If they can go through 6 years of life there smiling happily i wonder why i can't. Anyway..if u need any other info just PM me ya.
