    Russian med school HELP!

    Advertisements

Is it true you do not have to go to college before going into russian med schools. Can you go in right after school?

Generally, in Russia you may be accepted upon successfully completeting your secondary education with passing grades.

No, you don't have to have a four year college degree to be accepted into a Russian medical school. The only requirement is to have completed high school and have passing grades above 50%.

For Russia medical studies usually students need to complete their O Level/ SPM with the minimum of 5B's in the Science subjects & 2 Maths subjects. Then the students need to go for PreMed/ Pre U either Foundation In Science/ A Level/ SAM/ CPU. Students can also choose to study PreMed in Russia. They must score the qualified requirements in Pre U. Then the students will be accepted to enter 1st year Medical Degree. Total medical degree in Russia will be 6 years. If u plan to study medic in Russia, I would suggest u to choose either First Moscow State Medical University (Formerly known as MMA) or Russian State Medical University. They are the best medical university in Russia.

Those are British qualifications, they don't apply to you as an American applicant.

Almost every medical school in Europe (and Russia, and the former East Bloc) is a 6-year program, starting after high school. There are some graduate level 4-year programs, but they are a distinct minority. If you only speak English, then you would want to look at 6-year programs in English, which are available in Ireland, England, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, etc. (Note that if you speak another European language, such as German or French, and you can get accepted into a program in Western Europe, then it will probably be much cheaper for you.)

If you want to work in the US eventually, I would recommend looking at European programs, especially the 6-year English programs in Ireland, assuming you have good high school grades and are mature enough to handle medical school. The Irish programs are excellent, and well-respected worldwide. The programs in the East Bloc, with the possible exception of Jagiellonian, Charles First Faculty, and Semmelweis, should be much further down your list... along with Russian schools.
