    Admission to PFU

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,
I'm planning to go to PFU from next year for the Med program. I just had a few questions to the people who already attended it.

What exactly are the prerequisites? I tried looking through the PFU site, and honestly it's not really well constructued. I'm a community college student in canada doing microbiology and i already have 1 year of bio, chem, math and english. Is there a transfer policy or would i still have to do the 6 year program.

Also, anyone knows the success rates for people who has done the USMLE after graduating from PFU? I'm planning to do the USMLE after graduating, but from what i heard, PFU "technically" doesn't prepare you for the exam (as opposed to the caribbean uni's). Is there a waiting period after each time you fail USMLE? How many years into the program should i be doing the USMLE test?

    Hello there,
as a rule, PFU requires 60-70% in core subjects (Bio, Chem, Math and Physics). The state requirement: your passport shall be valid for at least 18 months since the day of application. The English-medium MD program starts at late September - October.

Transfer is quite possible but if only the programs in your previous medical school and in the new one are comparable. Russian MD program implies intensive Anatomy study from the very beginning (6-8 hours per week for 3 semesters). It is unlikely that you did it before. So, you would probably will be accepted for the 1st year but may be waived for some subjects (no guarantee before you speak to the school officials).

To my understanding, success rates for USMLE exams are not public.
The university does not offer any special courses preparing for the exam. However, it performs local exams as MCT and some students do in-team preparation on their own.

Step 1 and step 2 of USMLE you could do while being a student. All other answers concerning the exam you may find at appropriate web-site
