from what i understand, as long as you pass step 1 & 2 and have an MD degree from a ecfmg recognized school you'll be fine. meaning you'll be ecfmg certified. but then, you still have to complete a residency and step 3. however, you will not be granted any form of training or license in california because the english medium at your school has to be approved by the medical board. for example, in the case of hungarian schools. Thanks for the reply,

Actually the diploma that they award in St.Petersburg doesn't differ from that one which is awarded to the Russian. The English medium is just the medium they train you in, in other words its just to help the students but its not stated on the diploma.

Passing USMLE Step one after preclinicals

To all students of foreign med schools. You should pass your step one as soon as you finish your pre-clinical studies.Follow the US pattern of 6 year med schools and you should have no problem.People go overseas withot realizing that NBME exams are patient based and are very critical oflearned knowledge in class.Kaplan and other goo-goo pickers give you a mock study.Textbooks are your best source not Kaplan.
If you do not succeed in step 1 you should not be advanced to clinical studies. The guy who says he is an American citizen and graduating from Russia, should know that a long ago. This is for anybody who is a US CITIZEN and studying medicine abroad.

Kindly do a search, there is a glut of ECFMG information on this site.

Also look at ECFMG | Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

I am an American who soon will complete medical school in Saint Petersburg Russia. I am in the english medium and i would like to know what are the problems i will face with ECFMG registration and licensing.I read in another thread that it will be difficult to get a licesnse if you dont study in the language of that country which would be in russian and in my case i studyied in english medium.

Any informative feedback would be appreciated
    1. Check if the IMED mentions anything about the English program under the school's listing.

    2. If you are planning to go to California, check if the English program is specifically listed.

If the answer in 'no' in both cases, you may have a small problem on your hands.
