what do you mean with pre med???

i think that you need to get something straight.. so i ll put it in simple words..

there is no pre med... for english medium students.. you just will start your 1st year of med school.. and do 6 years..

those that do what is called ' POD FAK'.. are those that are planning to study in russian..
POD FAK has chemistry .. physics ..math ..russian...etc.but the MAIN purpose of it.. is for foreign students to pick up RUSSIAN so that they can go on with med school in russian.. they ll have to do a total of 7 years med school...

if you apply in english medium.. then dont bother with pod fak.. just go there as a 1st year student...and waste your 6 years there.. as M1 is not the best place to be..
you ll see what i mean when you ll be there..
    good luck

    lol

then your agent is trying to make more money from you.. and the agent at M1 being mr saman.. i would not be surprised..
so go and waste an extra year.. do your med program in 7 when you could do it in 6..
    good luck

did saman tell you or the secretary Lydia or olga?

I don't go to a Russian school, and don't plan to, but I've researched every medical school from here to Timbuktu.

bpoichan is right. You are getting scammed. I've never read of any school in Russia that requires a premed year UNLESS:

    1) you want to study in Russian
    or
    2) you want to study in English AND you cannot already speak English well

Obviously, neither of these apply to you (you speak English well, it seems), so your agent is trying to rip you off. Politely tell him what I've just told you, and hopefully he'll realize you are wise to his plot to rip you off and will back off.

Don't be so gullible around these agents; they are out to make a buck!

bpoichan is saying there are two programs: one in English, one in Russian. So yes, the English one does exist. However, it does NOT require a foundation year, like your agent pretends it does.

Yes, any state university is very cheap. The State Univ. of NY is extremely affordable (this is where I go, and the cost is around USD$5,000) and ranked as one of the top universities in America for certain sciences (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry in particular). A couple of SUNY schools also have medical schools, so there are plenty of oppurtunities to get volunteer experience.

Look into SUNY-Stony Brook (Stony Brook University) which is where I attend. Like I said, dirt cheap, respected in scientific community, and has a huge population of Asian students, so you'd feel less out-of-place. I think around 25% of our students are from China, and a large amount from Korea and Japan. Not sure about Malaysia, but I know we have a Thai Student Club, so there are probably some students from every Asian country (including Malaysia) around here too!

    Good luck.

    yup

    masamune..
first of all there are some info that you need to understand about med schools in the USA...
if you are planning to go to some university in the USA and then take the MCAT exam and hopefully go to an american med school.. you need to know that if you are a foreign student.. and i mean by that you are studying with a student visa and are not a permanent resident (green card) or US citizen.. your chances to enter a medical school are about 1%.

therefore if you are not a resident nor a US citizen .. it would be better for you to go to med school abroad.. for 6 years.. that will save you all the useless undergraduate studies that one has to go through in the states.. and then take your USMLE and apply for a Post graduate residency in the USA.

simply avoid M1.. PFU is excellent in education.. student life..and great great faculty..

    zut alors... tu es francais?
