I would never consider Russian medical schools, from the experiences I've heard from here and my Nepalese neighbor's aunt who went. She graduated there just fine, but she was far, far, from capable of sitting for the USMLEs.

If you guys are thinking Russia, why not China? There are plenty of them that have English medical programs, and are WHO-listed and whatnot. China Medical University in Shenyang has had an English program since the 1970s, almost as old as SGU...

My friend's family (and thus is aunt) is from Nepal. I'm sorry, I don't know much about Nepalese medical schools. However, I do know that the country right now is rather unstable, in a struggle between the royal authorities and the Communists...

Mikhail, am i right in saying that some of the above institutions are 'under investigation' by the GMC-UK? I am pretty sure they are, and if this is correct, none of the russian schools would be a good bet at the moment.

though it really aches to recapitulate past events yet i am scribbling few points here as asked by you.
as i have been a student at RSMU, i got pally with few students there who i am in constant contact with.one of them was beaten up by skinheads 4 days ago from now.foreigner's hostel, at ulitza volgina, is ablaze with such incidents. 4 murders so far i know of , several skinhead attacks.being a girl and fair skinned, i had no problems there but my darker pals had problems.girls are respected there but non-russian boys are taken to task.by 'taking to task' i mean to stress the "russia is only for russian" thinking of skinheads.latest incidents include, one malaysian student beaten by skinheads, his skin around eye orbits was ripped.another one had a senior student of indian origin being beaten.both of them had to be hospitalised.the best way to avoid such incident is to keep company of a girl preferrably a fair one cuz girls being raped and hit is also common among darker counterparts.don't be surprised if you are suggested to bleach your hair blonde (incase you're fair so that you look russian).be well dressed to mingle in crowd.my friend was pushed to fall who was non-russian.so girls are also not safe but much better off than boys.

by saying all this, i don't intend to scandalise the whole scenario.it's all upto you to lend ears to suggestions and advice and draft your own strategy.
since you're a malaysian, you'll have an advantage of groups malaysians roam in (which i seriously loathed cuz they won't entertain any non-malaysian )moreover, there is a serious bias against russian med schools at many places.being a malaysian and studying med in russia seems coherent because your govt has some tie-ups with russia in educational exchanges.so you're better of thinking this.i came back because i was highly buggered by bribery, corruption, poor studies ,hostels etc.it JUST didn't appeal to me.anyways, again it's just me saying this.have your own take .
    best of luck
