Since its match time, can Ross 4th years give their match results please for July 2003, such as name, semester started at ross, hospital matched with, residency specialty matched as, and location.
Or if someone knows of a Ross student who matched for July 2003, example got matched at a hospital they are residents at, etc... list them too to give prospectives an idea please.

    Thanks!

Didn't know if you knew or not, but on the official Ross site under "News Updates" you can see the official list for the last 2 years. It lists the name, specialty and hospital matched in.

Well, without giving names, I can tell you some places my class (started May '99) , and some places the class below me (started Sept. '99) matched:

    2 people: UConn, Internal Medicine
    1: UConn, Emergency Medicine
    1: U of Kentucky, Neurosurgery
1: Albany Medical College, General Surgery (categorical)
    1: U of Oaklahoma, Anesthesiology
    1: Wayne State, OB/GYN
    1: Ohio State, Pathology
    1: LSU Shrevesport, Internal Medicine
1: Shands Memorial Hospital (Florida), Pediatrics
    1: Ophthomology, SUNY Downstate

I matched in Orthopaedic Surgery, Brown University

The official list of 2003 won't be out, probably until late April-May.

"I matched in Orthopaedic Surgery, Brown University"

Congratulations!! That's a great achievment! How many med students from the Carribean match in Ortho a year? I assume it's single digits!

    Again...Congratulations!

    Keithom-

That is great you matched in ortho. It is quite competitive to get residency in ortho, dematology...how well do you have to do on the boards step 1 and 2 to even be considered in these competitive residencies?

"how well do you have to do on the boards step 1 and 2 to even be considered in these competitive residencies?"

Where I got in, Brown University, 100 applicants were interviewed. 54 of them had Step I scores in the 99th percentile.

Each program is different. I know 1 guy who matched in my ortho class with a Step I score of 233. MOST programs WILL use Step I as a cutoff for who they interview.

Step II is not a factor.

As an FMG, getting a 250+ on Step I will get you only SOME interviews in Ortho. Many programs will not interview you regardless of how well you do. They key is rotating where you want to go.

That's great! Glad to see even more Caribbean grads getting great residencies! 2 in optho, ortho, path, neurosurgery?!?!? ... some great schools on that list, we should all be proud of our fine and upstanding IMGs!

Congrats to all who matched, and double grats to those listed above! Keep up the good work and thank for your help making all of us currently striving in the Caribbean look good!

I hope you guys don't mind, but I would like to link this topic in the AUC forum to show people looking into Caribbean schools that it is definately possible to match very very well coming out of the Caribbean. Any objections?

    Good luck!

I can't speak for the others, but I welcome the idea. Your ideas represent what we are trying to achieve here....a place where all of us can go to help each other by sharing info....not just within our own school's forum, but between the schools as well. This type of mentality can benefit us all as IMGs. I sincerely hope that others will follow your lead and begin to accept a more cooperative, rather than competitive, attitude.

At the risk of sounding corny, I will post a passage that I read in the hospital today (paraphrased):
A frustrated mother took her son to Gandhi and asked, "Please make my son stop eating sugar". Gandi replied, "Come back in 2 weeks". The mother and child returned in 2 weeks and Gandi told the boy, "Stop eating sugar". The surprised mother said, "Thank you, but why did you have to wait 2 weeks to say this?" Gandhi replied, "Because that's how long it took me to stop eating sugar".

The moral of the story is that you should lead by example. trmedic21 has done so today as well as many of our other users, and so we are thankful to have them around. Good luck to all.
