    anyone into music?

    Advertisements

    hello all,
I will be joining you all on Dominica in january and was just wondering what the music scene, if any, is like down there. I plan on bringing my acoustic guitar and a much revised version of my cd collection. I understand we will be busy with the demanding workload, but i would love to find a bunch of people who play/appreciate music and would be interested in getting together a couple of hours every weekend or so. I am no hendrix or clapton but I find that a couple of hours a week chilling, maybe with a couple of beers ( optional) , good friends and decent music is a great way to kick back and recharge the batteries for another demanding workweek. I am into everything from blues to radiohead, keller williams to tori amos. I welcome all feedback. 8)

    no piano

As far as I know, there is no piano on campus. the campus is musicless without a piano. Someone should open a piano bar right by the picard beach, so we all can have long walks at the beach during the sunset time.

    good idea!

I could bring a six octave keyboard, but I am not sure it would have the same appeal. I guess we will just have to sing real loud and obnoxious-like.

    save some space

I think that you should try to use all the 70lbs allowrance to bring your clothes and some good food.

but i know that one dude shipped his drums all the way from states to here. And he spent like over 200 ec just to get it delivered from Roseau to here.

    Music

I'm a percussionist...I have a drum kit, but Unlike whoever was mentioned to have shipped his set over to Dominica...I'm not doing that...but it's cool...cause I can make some fun sounds come out of pots and pans...just gimme a surface and I'll make noise. Current instrument of choice: my car steering wheel. It's great, but out of tune.

Music: Tool, Radiohead, Fiona Apple...well, most female vocalists...Jazz, Salsa (hook it up with that Latin spicyness)...well, just about anything with a decent drumbeat...I'm usually able to look past a song's shortcomings and just focus on the rhythm.

I'm not a beer fan, but bust out the rum and I'm game...

I think that I have a not to secret desire to become a pirate...

    ARRRR!!!

    forgot to add one group

while I know I started generalizing my musical preferences I decided it was worth noting that I really enjoy Massive Attack and Tricky.

While they're not too well known...they are amazing, look into it.

    hey hottie!

    hey 'Iamhot',
I assure you I was kidding about the six octave keyboard. It will be in storarage. thanks for the recommendation. I bet you are really hot, or else just a really vain guy.

    radiohead live

Hey radiohead, I saw the real band play in Giant's Stadium in June. It was unbelievable....undoubtedly the best live show out there right now.

    great show indeed

    good deal methusala,
I caught their alpine valley show in wisconsin in August. you are dead on about them being at the top of their game. I have also had the pleasure of seeing them do grant park in chicago and plan to see them again on december third back home in Ireland. I know that is bordering on fanatical but they are one of the few bands out their right now who rock hard, innovate and still put out important music concerning social and political activism ie 2+2 = 5 and "hail to the thief" alluding to a certain presidents rise to power. I don't want to offend anyones political and/or patriotic sensibilities, particularly on this forum so I will limit the discussion here. i guess i believe the wheels of a successful democracy are oiled by skepticism. As a wise forensics professor once offered " question everyone, before they question you" i would be more than happy to discuss the whole radiohead thing in private if you care to pm me. If not, then you still have great taste in music. rock on sister!

    music

hmm...i am learning to play an old acoustic guitar.
    it's a slow process.
if anyone wants to have a little fun with a bit of quirkiness, get the september sessions soundtrack. i liked g. love, ozomatli, and the track 'ganges a go-go'. much fun.
