    Aua

AUA is new school, doesn't have a permanent campus, students can't get federal loans, and isn't approved by any of the States in the US that have approval processes. They have made impressive affiliations, but its not clear how these are working out. The only reason a student would transfer to AUA at this point is because they failed several times or were kicked out of Ross. If they chose AUA for any other reason such as quality of the island life they really aren't looking for a good education -- moreso an easier life. This isn't to say anything bad about AUA, but it will take 10 years before the two can even be compared with eachother.

As far as I know, all the Ross students who fail more than 2 semesters are removed from the school (Ross Univ).

I have seen students like this actually fill out AUA applications in the Ross library in Dominica. I asked why AUA.... and he/she replied that "it's easy to get into"

So as far as I know it is very easy to transfer from a big school like Ross or St. George to get admitted to AUA.

    Yes it is

AUA has far better professors and teaching than Ross does. I was a student at Ross and thought that I was getting a good education; after all, that's what everyone had always said. Then things started going downhill with the administration, the ways classes were being run, etc., and good professors leaving Ross to go to AUA. I also realized that although I was getting good grades, I did not have the education necessary to answer "board questions." I transferred to AUA and to this day I do not regret it. The classes were a lot smaller and significantly tougher. You are asked questions in class and given pop quizzes so the professor can see if you've been doing your work. A lot of people complain that it's too hard but it has made me a better student and I learned better, and more, than I did at Ross. I realized my first day at AUA that Ross did not prepare me for the boards. And that I might be able to answer a multiple choice question but I could not come up with an answer on my own, in a mere second or two, and be able to explain why that was the answer. This helped greatly in 5th semester when I was asked questions by the physician I was with. I'll admit that I definitely didn't get every question right but I did better than I would have if I would never have been exposed to this type of teaching.

Yes, there are students at AUA who transferred because they failed at Ross. If someone truly wants to be a physician, they will work hard and put in the effort needed to succeed. AUA has given several students a second chance. There is nothing wrong with that. AUA has failed students, and some of those students who failed out of Ross have also failed out of AUA.

There were problems with financial aid, and there still are. But they are getting better. Automatic transfers have been put into place between several loan companies and AUA so the money gets to the students more quickly. In general, transfer students have more problems with financial aid than other students, simply because of the difficulties and procedures of canceling the loans, reapplying, and then making sure everything is working the way it should be. Contrary to what students say on this site, some do get their financial aid in the first few weeks of the semester. Also, as of January, all students should be able to receive federal aid (not just private loans) for all 4 semesters on the island, rather than just the first 2.

You have probably noticed that 98% of the people who post to AUA forum have nothing good to say about the school. That is because the rest of the people, who do have something good to say, have better things to do, like studying, and do not frequent the site. AUA is a good school and I see it getting better all of the time. All new schools are shaky at first. For the students who chose to start at AUA as soon as it opened, that was their decision, and they should have expected some problems. AUA has great faculty, they are growing quickly, and have probably tripled the size of their Antigua campus within the last 6 months. The Miami program was brand new last semester because it was the first class that went through. However, that program is now set up and should run smoothly. What most of the students here do not see is what is going on with the administration, and I can guarantee you that changes are being made there that are helping the school tremendously.

It's your decision as to which school you choose. Do your research and now what you're getting yourself into. I have heard many things about Ross but I will not comment on them because I do not know if they are rumors or not. Just don't believe everything you read on this site; a lot of times it is used to vent frustrations, and one small thing is exaggerated beyond belief. Good luck to you!

    Hey guys and gals

Ross is a fine institution. Having worked with several Ross physicians echoed that fact. They are well trained back then and definitely now. Any way good luck to all of you and thanks for the info.
