    AICM

    Advertisements

    Hi, all fellow ROSSers!!!
Hmm.... Am I going to write something good about AICM, am I going to tickle your brains with useful information, or give away answers to the final? Well....
No, I'm just going to man's best friend... 8)
    1. Main pain in my gluteus maximus:
A Miami Professor-->Do not, and I repeat, do not listen to anything the man tells you because the TA's do all the work, he doesn't see your papers or your PE's or anything... He likes to compensate for his inabilities at either medicine or life by making everyone elses's life a living hell... Just a note, you will probably get a marginal on your paper even if you have an excellent one, so don't even try. They told us straight up, they just have to fail about 70% of the class. He says that we should all be professional and courteous, and yet his secretary doesn't even know how to talk to people, she is rude and calls people to their face "a pain in the ***" well that's professional, don't u think????? He talks about "COMMON CURTESY" but you know what, you have to tackle down ******, because he is omnipotent, and you can't just walk into his office. Oh, best of all during the final, he assigned seating, and someone sat in the wrong seat number like in 32 instead of 23, and he says outloud in class: Dyslexia won't get you far!!!!!
    2. "Path teacher"
hahahahahahahahahaha*******WEll, let me tell you, he is no *******, he is just about as smart as *******... Actually he just reads the info to you in class from the little book that a Miami Professor thinks is valuable clinical info. WEll, its just as valuable as that Passarge Genetics Atlas
    3. Rotations
WEll, if you don't habla espanol, don't come to Miami. HEHEHE
You may now wonder why? WEll, if you didn't know everyone hablas espanol, and if you don't, you're out of luck, because they will look at you as if you are stupid. Most of our rotations went something like this: We would show up at 8am, and stay there until 5pm or 6pm, just standing, (we are NOT allowed to even touch the patient) Oh, and the best part, is that not only the patients, but all the doctors speak ONLY spanish, and I repeat, the REFUSE to speak english, or explain anything to you. So if you like being a MIME, get a job as one at least you will get paid.
Driving anywhere in Miami takes about an hour, oh and you get yelled at by 2 or 3 consecutive teachers for being 5 minutes late even if you spent the last 2 hours in traffic.
Well, enjoy Miami, and all the hastle and all the frustrations!!!!!! And remember, either Hable Espanol, or don't come!!!!! If you really don't want to be insulted sarcastically in front of many people, don't come here.
    Do 5th in Dominica!!!!!!
    Dissappointed in Miami

    another one?

what's with this? They must have really killed all of you in 5th. Didn't anyone on the island ever WARN you guys about 5th? You are realizing all this now?

In terms of papers, yes, it is known that he doesn't look at any. Of course the TA's get all the work. This is all known. It's Ross afterall!!!! You actually think anyone works????

In terms of not knowing spanish, get used to it! You are best off to grin and bear it OR grab some change and buy a spanish dictionary OR get a spanish-speaking gf/bf to help you learn the easy way. If you plan on doing your clinical rotations in New York LEARN SPANISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ...

Miami is the most disorganized program I've ever been to!!!! I've never seen any program where the facilitators and their helpers or fellow teachers do not communicate to each other. This is the most subjective "EDUMACATION" I've ever received. I've never been graded against the policy of whether a teacher likes me or not, or whether he is having a good day or a bad day. I expect professionalism from the faculty because I exhibit it as a student. If they do not respect us and do not treat us as collegues, why should we respect them or anything they teach us. And really, if they are gonna tell us that everything we learned in Dominica is Crap, then why not do 5th semester during ICM in 4th. A professor ****** can come down from his "throne" and teach it to us on the island, and then there would be no point to Miami, we could just skip it!!!! But then his position and status would be unnecessary and he would be out of a job. I honestly did not learn anything in Miami that I did not know before. Just acquired Frustration and dislike of Ross that I never had before!!!!!!!

    different opinion

    Dr Braniac;

I don't think the final grades are out yet. I know that many students had to stay an extra week to retake the physical or redo the write-ups etc. As far as bing told 70% must fail how can you write such lies. My son just finished fifth in 9 weeks and actually thought he learned something especially how to work 12 hour shifts in clinics. He also learned how to properly do rite-ups which will help him greatly when he is in clinicals. He is studying 8 to 10 hours a day for the USMLE part 1 currently and hopefully all that he learned at ROSS will help.

I guess you figure you failed becuase why else would you talk this way. Maybe you figured you spend your time on SOuth Beach and not ever study. Unfortunately 5th semester is difficult. Everyone should keep the good study habits they learned in Dominica while in 5th.
When you become my age you will realize all of the hard work and studying was worth the effort.
"60 years young" another 60 to go if my doctor sons keep me alive with free prescriptions!!

    AICM

    To you, gratefull parents!!!!!
Well, first of All, I did not fail, I actually got an B in a 9 week!
Second of all I've had much clinical experience and worked in a hospital, and not being allowed to even touch a patient during Miami rotations is not something I expected
Thirdly, I know you all are grateful that your kids are in med school, so is my mother, but this gratitude doesn't last very long when you are exposed to the disorganized unprofessional, frustrating program like Miami.
Moreover, the 70% fail rate is actually a number from a VERY OFFICIAL source, and if you bother to look into it a little more, you will see that every semester the number is the same. And we were told that there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with our paper, they just already gave out all the A's and the rest got a Marginal or an Unsatisfactory, because if everyone put in the good work, and got A's their jobs would be unnecessary!!!!! I also am not stupid and realize that every semester there are stupid people who don't want to do any work, and think they can get away with it, but this is MED SCHOOL, and I take it seriously. Having a 4.0 from the island, really helps me to distinguish in that manner. I know i put in 150%.
Miami is great for those who kiss gluteal not for those who are trying to do the semester justly
So, I am not complaining because I failed, and you should re-evaluate your views on Ross Miami. Dominica was a wonderful experience, and I would do it 10 times over.

Soo...If your adaptable, flexible, work hard, have a positive attitude, and do well... you're a KISS gluteal??

When you get to clinicals/residency you're going to look back at the prof as a Saintly mentor.

    Best Wishes for your Success.

It was either high B or A, don't remember other than the fact my kid was satisfied with the outcome. The important result was the Step 1 score that was above the US average. My kid is not a STAR nor a genious but will make a very good, dedicated, caring physcian.
