    5th Semester Final was TOUGH!

    Advertisements

The multiple choice was easy but the essay questions were not only difficult to answer but also lenghty.

The last essay Q has 7 pages in it! They really expected us to diagnose and know the treatment for a lot of disease.

Hopefully there will be a HUGE curve!!

    not as rough as some

My son called and said the test was rough but not as rough as some tests he had when he was in Dominica like Anatomy. 5 semesters complete and 5 to go . Good luck to all the 5th semester students on the USMLE part 1.

    clinical skills testing?

Just wondering if the students of 5th semester in Miami still have the Clinical skills test..where you have to perform a complete physical exam in 45 mins max?

If they do, this test actually becomes vital for skills required in the STEP 2 CS exam.

    A.

    5th semester

    Almd2b:

Again per my son in 5th semester you choose a partner to whom you each perform a physical exam on each other. He indicated that 20% of the class has to stay for an extra week to redothe physical. The kids have to switch air tickets and leases etc. The other part of 5th includes:

1-BLS/ ACLS certification- not too difficult to pass
2-clinical write-ups- many students had to repeat them
    3-Epideimiology exam
    4- final exam
    5-several weeks at clinical sites.

    Hope this helps.

Yes it was 45 min. But the exam is very subjective. If you have the right examiner you get a good grade....if not you will do a repeat of the exam in the remedial exam.

5th for the rest of us

out of 280 people, 50 failed the PE, 50 got an A. Same percentages as last semester.

I heard people in the past had to repeat 5th. Any one have any numbers ? How many people were repeating this time ?

    re

not the same as last semester.

I think we had 10 As, tops. (email stated I think about 7-8% got As)
    class of about 180.

    dont know how many failed.

as for the final, everyone thinks they fail.

but its all based on how the class does on a whole and how you do compared to your class. Different grading scheme from the island.

    epi was open book

The epi exam was open book. Yet people managed to fail that too.
52 people failed the PE exam. Ferndz said 18% failed it last semester.
I've been told 5% will fail the final. Straight curve.

    open book?

open book sucks. in grad school, I had an open book final, that I finished in about 7 hours(one of the first done!). my score dropped me form an A to a C, my worst grade in grad school. over half the class failed the final. open book justmeans a boatload harder!

    Re: open book?

In engineering classes, the term "open book" would strike fear into our hearts. The idea being that straight concepts and definitions are made too easy since you can just look it up in front of you. So they would take it to the next level and test our "understanding", academic term for "you going down, sucka".

But this epi was open book AND straight concepts and definitions. Most of us summarized the info into one or two crib sheets and the reduced page flipping let us leave early.

The final though, was a nightmare.
