    Advertisements

    Code:
Study Guide to Epidemiology and Biostatistics Required
Kaplan and Sadock’s Synopsis of Psychiatry Required
Behavioral Sciences and Health Care Recommended
    Clinical Ethics Recommended
Robbins’ Pathologic Basis of Disease Required
WebPath CD Version 6 (or later) Required software
    Medical Microbiology Required
    Basic & Clinical Pharmacology	Required
Goodman & Gilman’s The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics Reference
    Immunology for Medical Students Required

didn't find anything while searching this board. so,

Based on the list above, what books did you get for 3rd semester?
Did you get any books that you didn't even use at all?

As usual, given the limited amount of time, I'd like to know the minimum, most effective, set of textbooks I should have for 3rd semester.

I'm cautious about their "required" list, as I have bought books that I didn't even use much and probably won't ever open again... e.g Guyton.

any unlisted books I should get?

    thanks for any input.

    woops. nevermind.

i found a link during search
    http://www.valuemd.com/ftopic28444.h...light=textbook

but any new advice would be nice too.

What exactly is the katzung "middle book" mentioned in the old thread above?

and what is pharm like? just memorizing a crap load of names and mechanisms?

is Robbins textbook something we'd need for the long term? or could I ditch that and just get BRS and robbins review book for no nonsense study?
I'm like some others. I don't like to read a lot. I don't wanna touch anything like guyton.

    books for 3rd and 4th

Robbins (BRS Path is missing chapters covered in class)
    Clinical Micro made ridiculously simple
    Immunology for medical students
    BRS-Behavioral Science
    Bates

I wouldnt worry about a pharm book, packets are money, and you can get the full Katzung book online at AccessMedicine through our library's website.
You really dont need any books for Micro/Immuno either because they test you straight from packets. Since they are doing ICM in 3rd now and you will take the full ICM course in 4th might as well get Bates now and start using it. You shouldnt need to purchase any additional books for 4th semester, pretty sweet.

    really..... a free e-book? nice.

Is it just like the paper edition of the smaller katzung book?

I wish all books were in CD or e-book format. much less baggage that way.

and are the missing chapters in BRS Pathology covered in the Robbins _review_ book?

Pick up one of the Yellow brochures in the library

I didnt discover all the resources that are online through our school's license until late 2nd semester. Go to *******
Now you have access to all of the resources listed which are full text versions of the books online. (Katzung Pharm book is the one listed under Lange Educational Library)

You really need the pictures out of Robbins because many of them will be on your Mini exams and Lab exam for Path. You can get a free copy of WebPath from just about anyone.

that's some good stuff. But I'm gonna buy a few paper copies nevertheless.

you might wanna edit the post.

I don't think the public is supposed to have access to our school's resources
