    ??

I'll let others get into this one, in detail I'm sure...but ask this question:

How many times have you been to your doctor(MD) and asked where they went to school??? Doesn't happen often.

If it's the "Ross" behind your title you're worried about, you could go your entire career without any patient asking where you went, or knowing where or what Ross is.

However, you can never escape your DO title...good or bad, it's there for all the world to see, forever.

    my opinion

while what the previous poster remarked is true to some extent, here is another angle....its called the "how competitive am I for a particular residency" angle. From my experience with the interview process and observations, a D.O. is in the running for most of the more coveted residencies. e.g. surgery, ER, derm, optho. where as an FMG its seems like there is somewhat of a glass ceiling to what residencies we can get. For example, how many rossies have you seen get some of these more competitive residencies...very few and far between. The D.O.'s , because they are american grads, dont suffer alot of the stigma we do. That being said they have there own issues like when some patients want to know what the hell a D.O. is. For the primary care fields like IM, FP, Peds, OB/GYN, FMG's are competitive and you wouldnt really be "penalized" for going to a foreign school like Ross, but for the aforementioned other more competitve fields you should seriously consider the D.O. route. good luck

    re

Personally, i'd pick Ross over DO. Like other person said, DO is forever and how long do you want to explain to people "Well, a DO is a doctor, but our main focus is....".
