    Clinicals in Texas?

    Advertisements

I asked the interviewer about clinicals in texas since that whole texas license approval with ross grads thing. Umm...he said that i can do my electives in Texas. Can someone please explain the possibilities of this? Also, by the time I start clinicals (2007) what are the chances that i can do core rotations in Texas?

almost no chance of doing core rotations in Texas. Not unless you have some connection with a medical school in Texas that will allow you to do your core rotations in Texas.

But other than that, you won't be able to setup you're own core rotations in Texas, unless you plan on never practicing in Texas.

Todo any rotation in texas, core or elective, it has to be through a medical school rotation. Most, if not all texas medical schools, do not allow any students other than their own to do core rotations through them. Some have applications for visiting students to do elective rotations in their hospitals, once they have done your core rotations elsewhere.

Texas has specific laws in this regard, visiting students can only do rotations through a texas medical school. Going around them would jepordize you're licensure ability in the state of texas.

I am from Houston and so is my family, so there is an incentive for me to practise here. So not doing core rotations is fine and I would be happy to do my electives in Texas at any texas medical school. Whatever it takes to improve my chances of getting a texas license alongside high usmle scores, if I can do it.

    rotations in texas

there is a program with Baylor that allows international medical students to do elective rotations in Texas. According to one of the members (I forgot her name) of the Texas medical board, Ross students are welcomed to apply to those programs, but they're not the core rotations.

As far as being able to do elective rotations wherever we want, I don't know if that's possible. I don't know if current 4th year ross students are allowed to choose where they do their elective rotations. If they are, then this Baylor program may be an option for you

    Electives in Texas

I have an friend from SGU whose from Dallas. He's done several electives thru UT Southwestern. There's a 4th yr Ross student who was doing an elective thru Southwestern a couple of weeks ago. So it is possible to do electives!

you have to apply to one of the medical schools to do elective rotations. Its the only way.

I think they all have applications for it, just a matter of them accepting you.
