    car rentals and insurance

    Advertisements

For those of you in Miami who are renting a car (or anyone with recent experience), what did you do about insurance coverage? I've been looking into rentals and the insurance plans offered by the rental companies turn out to be more expensive than the rental itself. Please help!!

    Thanks,
    caw

I saved around 70.00 dollars, just for being an AMSA member from Geico.

    under 25

Just remember for any students under 25 there are few rental options. Try rent a wreck and Dollar. As far as insurance if you don't have a car and your parents are receptive see if they can add you to their policy. IOf not try Allstate and AIG.

    Car Rentals Miami

Take a look at "Five Star" Rentals located in the lobby of the Holiday Inn North near MIA airport. Tell Andre or Louis you're a Ross student under twenty-five. They know the situation. Be sure to tell em you want a car with "working" A/C. I believe it was about $700 with insurance included for my kid. For the first month my kid had a Ford Taurus because they didn't have a Sentra availbable. They honored the lower quoted monthly price.

    Best Wishes for Sucess.

how easy is it to buy a used car over there?

and is driving really necessary if you find a centrally-located apartment?

    just curious.........

    definitely need a car

    link626:

Even if you find an apartment within walking distance to the7000 building which is the Ross Miami office and has classrooms and computers you will still have to get to Ashe Auditoirium which can be done by taking trains and walking. The various clinical sites are all over the place. My son has been to SOuth Miami beach, the Haitian Institute which is pretty far north and other places . I guess you could try and get a cab to take you there. Also depending on where you live you will need to do shopping etc. It is "necessary to have a car". You can partner with someone and that way you could share the cost of the car. If both of you are over 25 you should be able to get a compact car for $500 a month or less.

yes. i will be over 25, so car rental is not an issue.

however, the total cost will probably be $2000+. I think Hertz has a monthly program, and you get something a little faster than a pinto.

but that's cash down the drain, AND you have to return the car..... whereas a used car is just a couple thousand, and you can sell it again to another student afterwards.... especially if it's a reliable japanese car.
This sounds like the best plan ideally, but I don't know how easily it can be done.

    Why Hertz

    Link626:

Why would anyone rent from Hertz. Its the most expensive rental company their is. Try Dollar , Budget, Value etc. Also see if you qualify for any promotional codes ie: airline frequent flyer. Go online and check rates. They are usually better online.
