    Entertainment on Dominica?

Is there anything to do when you want to get your mind off studying? Bars etc.? WHat do students do if they are so stressed out and want to go out?

    Entertainment

No. Mabye a little snorkeling.....Wine bar is boring unless you're looking for nothing else but to get sloshed. It's rather entertaining to just listen to these silly Dominicans try and speak English. It's the official language of this country. Poor guys just can't do it. It's just too hard for these simpletons. " I stopeen" , " Lez go, Lez go" , " Boy you come". Hilarious, yet pathetic. Ok.......bash me all you want.

    entertainment

I remember one of the most entertaining days my family had in Dominica was watching the locals move a house. It was quite interesting how they did it. We actually video taped a little of it for future enjoyment. From what I hear the wine bar was the "happening place" for the single people or for those without kids. You can also get alot of enjoyment just walking down the roads and listening to the locals converse. They have their own lingo and it's interesting to hear. Some locals like to just yell, scream or sing VERY loud to themselves while out for a walk.

Now to really answer your question, you will have to be proactive in finding things to do. There is always the tourist stuff you can do. Plenty of locals can hook you up with "guides". Just be careful you don't get taken advantage of. They WILL do that. Scuba diving, hiking, biking, swiming. All the nature stuff applies. There were some clubs on campus while we were there and they usually plan events. I think it was the Chinese student org. that has bingo. Pretty good prizes if I remember right. Some prizes were trips to other islands(air fare only), & they had food. It was pretty fun. If you're looking for real entertainment you should go to SMU. I hear that is where it's all at.

You'll get pretty good at the accent just as you leave after 4th semester. You'll then soon lose it and just sound stupid when you try remember how it sounded.

the winebar is nothing special, my back yard back inthe states looks and has better furniture than that place. It looks like a homeless shelter with Ross Students in it at night. You would think that I am joking, the sad part is that I wish I was. Don't believe me, come on down and see it for yourself. You will laugh and then cry....

Dominica is known as the Nature Island, so if you are an outdoor buff, try to joining the Outdoor Club for hikes and sites. Dominica is currently rated as the fifth diving wonder of the world. A great dive shop in Roseau is at Ft. Young Hotel. They are reasonable, and they have master divers available for hire. Aaron is the best. They pick you up in a boat right at the back of the hotel. If you make it up to Portsmouth, there is a dive center right next to the Ross campus to the north. They are more experienced and even cheaper. Dominica has over 350 waterfalls. Trafalger is great, but there are lots of others. Emerald Pool is interesting and has quite a history. The Boiling Lake is one of only 2 like it in the world and a site you will remember for the rest of your life. The Carib Indians make some pretty extraordinary baskets. Although they live on the east side of the island, if you can't manage to get to the other side of the island it is possible to purchase their baskets in Roseau and Portsmouth. They range from a few dollars up to about $20 for the huge ones. You will never see ones like them any where else in the world, and they make great gifts for back home. Their are lots of lots of national Dominican park sites to tour. Keep in mind that your Visa to stay at Ross makes you a temporary Dominican citizen, and it gives you the right to visit these sites for FREE.

    Hope this helps!!

    winebar

I must admit, the wine bar is pretty pathetic but I will give it this, the drinks are pretty cheap, especially compared to the states. Besides, once your drunk enough, you completely forget how crappy it really is.
