    Mandated Residency Reporting?

    Advertisements

I thought I would create a survey about this point since it seems to come up year after year.

We all know that the Ross residency postings is only a fraction of the actual residency positions attained by Ross University students. There are several reasons for this:

    1) Some students just get too busy to report.
    2) Some students report late and the list doesn't get updated (it doesn't seem as though Ross has a dedicated website specialist).
    3) Some students don't get a request to report.
    4) Etc

In US schools the match lists are actually reported ONLY to the medical school the student attends. The School is then responsible for distributing the results.

What do you guys think? Maybe there should be some incentive for reporting? Any suggestions?

    Reporting residency placement

Residency reporting if it were mandatory would not be that difficult for the students to fulfill--just a formality. I would definitely support mandatory reporting for graduation!

    so true

this one area where Ross shoots themselves in the foot. people say"well, if they have so many grads, why so little residency placements in their list" not jknowing that the list os 40% of the placements. they need to do it, its a no-brainer.

    Re: Reporting residency placement

Agreed. I would imagine that it It would just be one form, or a copy of your Match verification (or pre-match contract).

I voted "yes", but keep in mind that the reporting system will more than likely be affected by privacy acts. Keeping information private and confidential used to not be an issue, but law makers have now taken it to the extreme. If students wish to have their names posted, so be it, but if individuals choose to not have there personal data made public, the university will need to decide how to do so for statistics, while protecting the graduates privacy.

    one possibilty

Privacy is important, but the residencies usually list you on their website anyways. The names of the students aren't even as important to current students or prospects as the names of the hospitals and specialties. I guess they could have a question on the new form which asks (choose one):

+ The University may use many name along with my residency position AND I'd be happy to be contacted by current students or prospective students if they have any questions for me about my experience about Ross or my residency.
+ The University may use my name along with my residency postion on their website or other materials.
+ The University may use only my residency position, but I do not want my name included in the listing.

Back in the day when some of the Caribbean schools were so desperate for students I can imagine they may have fabricated residency placements. As a result, I bet current students and prospects pressured the schools into including names to prove these placements weren't fabricated. Now with the Internet, its very easy to verify this information and I don't think this is really an issue for Ross or its image.

If graduates decide they don't want their names included - I don't think its really that big of a deal.

    re

I voted yes, but reporting you're residency doesn't mean they have to post you're name as well.

Could have several options like Mitch said or maybe have the option of positing the position with you're initials. Something is better than nothing.

I think Ross reports matches, but the big problem is that students graduate, match for residency, and fail to report their match to Ross. I believe what Mitch is saying is that it should be madatory for Ross grads to report data back to Ross.
