what the hell is MERP ?

    Advertisements

    Hi guys !

I don't want to sound like and idiot, but I've seen some posts about a program called MERP at Ross. Honestly, I've never heard this before. Is it like a premed program ?

By the way, I'm getting my 90 credits done this semester, and Ross seems like a really nice school (except for the tuition ) and my GPA is turning around 2.9 to 3.0 with tons of clinical experiences and good reference letters. Now, should I spend the next 6 months tackling the MCAT or should I apply to SABA and SMU and in the end, it's still an MD

With this GPA, wat are my chances at Ross MD program or the so called MERP ???

thanks guys for the insides! very appreciated !!

    What the hell is MERP

Hello my friend.. MERP is a Medical Education Review Program.

It is designed for people that don't get directly accepted into Ross, but have a "second chance" at it.. they could just say NO.. Or they can say come to MERP, take 5 classes and if you pass you're in...

You take, Biochem,Physiology,Immunology,Microbiology and Doctor patient relations (or something like that) it is a new program with the classes you will encounter in med school.. it's not a sure thing because you have to maintain a 80 average to go on to the island.. so...

some say it's a way of taking 10K from you, I see it as a way in ....
depends on your chances in life. Your stats.. I've seen people with what I think are solids stats been sent to MERP.

just apply everywhere you would like to go.. and if you get directly accepted elswhere then consider your options.....(consider Puerto Rico also they have good schools, LCME accreditted and all)

I'm going in April. I've been out of school for a long time and basically this is one of my very few options to become a doctor.. so..... hope this helps!!!

I got into MERP after applying to Ross. So I had all the requirements... Give them a call. But have you tried the US schools/Puerto Rico?? if you can get into one of those they are US schools..

If you have no options, or don't want to wait, then sure go for MERP.. It all depends on what's your situation.. any more questions just keep posting!!

If you get "merped" do you take those classes in the US? Or do you have to go to Dominica?

You take classes in MIAMI. The "old MERP" was in Dominica.

    By the way

By the way - you are not likely to be accepted to Ross with "90 Credits" and no degree (if that is the case) - especially with a substandard GPA.

The MERP is a review program for people who qualify for admission but who have been away from school for a while or who don't quite match up to the grades of others who are accepted but show promise. It is not a pre-med program, it is a preparatory program.

Think of it as a $20,000 one way ticket to a kick-butt prep class in Miami where you can go fishing on the weekends.
