    Medicine core at king's county

    Advertisements

I searched the forum for previous posts on IM rotations at King's county and mostly saw negative comments on them in regards to long hours, no time to study and the teaching is very poor, etc. I'm planning on going into Internal Medicine and would really like to know if anyone could post their experience at King's County. Especially the people who just RECENTLY finished an IM rotation there! Have things change or are they still as bad? Thanks so much!

oh and i forgot. is anyone doing their IM rotation there right now? if you are, can you please post your experiences thus far? that is if your schedule isn't too hectic!

This rotation is historically known as a bad one. However, my experience wasn't nearly as bad. The hours are long, limiting your ability to study. But the teaching is good. Many of the problems you may encounter are more related to dealing with nurses and other ancillary staff at a county hospital. If you indeed are considering going into Internal Medicine, Kings County may be the best preparation Ross offers. Your level of responsibility at this place is tremendously high, since there are no residents or interns to lean on. The attendings basically allow you to manage the patients. The more competence you show, the more rope they give you. Clearly, if you're an idiot, you'll be watched over like a hawk. But if you show initiative and ability, you'll be treated like doc.
