    Calling fifth semester for help!

    Advertisements

    Hey dear fellow fifth semester,

I know it's a little bit late and all but I need a favor from you guys that have made it -- mini 1 is around the corner and I need some advice!

I have been studying my butt off but for some reason I don't feel prepared at all for ICM -- So my question is, how does one study for ICM?????

I'm lost. No offense to our Great Dr. S -- but it seems to me ICM is kinda like another repeat of behavorial -- students are basically at lost....

Don't get me wrong either, because I like Dr. C and I like ICM -- I just am lost at how to study for this class... it's all over the place... I feel like a headless rat.

Thanks. Hope everyone had a happy carnival day! -- it's a joke.

    wrong semester

    Babby Robbins:

You sure you are atalking about 5th semester and not 4th semester.
When you become my age you will realize all of the hard work and studying was worth the effort.
"60 years young" another 60 to go if my doctor sons keep me alive with free prescriptions!!

    Re: wrong semester

He is talking about 4th semester.

I'm the same, I don't really feel prepared for ICM, I've just studied the packets w/ my notes and used HY Internal Medicine to cover cardiology, blood disorders and respiratory. I've read a little of Davidson, but who really has time to read every single assigned page and then expect to remember it all?

I'm worried about EKG's too, I know the basics but when it comes to PVC's, etc, I get a little confused especially since it was so rushed in lecture.

Hey singer i think he is asking 5th semesters for advice since we were just there. THe first icm test was bad last semester with the average, i think, being very close to the actual mps ( the average was in the 50s). Make sure you know the handouts, if you dont understand them look them up in davidsons, and also study the old mini questions.

    Hey guys,

Thanks -- and yes I'm a fourth semester. I figured the best people to ask are fifth semesters... I"ll try the packets and old minis but the packets don't say much... neither does Davidsons (I think) ... Harrison's is good, but too lengthy. I hope packets will do -- I went to all lectures, but again, (I hate to say it) lecturers weren't that great.

    Thanks for the advice.
Hope to be in Miami some day...

Singer: Baby Robbins is in 4th

    Anyway...Baby Robbins...here is what I did:

I read through Davidsons for CVS and respiratory.
I read through all the secondaries in John's Notes
PM me and I will send you a link for 4th semester notes that I used.

And read all the class lectue power points.
I did receive an A in the class.

    I hope that helps.

    5th

Unfortunately, the 1st ICM mini is a distaster for 90% of students.
Last semester the average mini score was a 59, and the MPS was set at 50.
You cannot know 'what' material to study because nothing is ever stressed in class. My advice is to study as much as you can, but focus more on other classes, and don't be too upset with a low grade on this 1st ICM mini and questions on the test topics that you know you have never seen.

    ..

As predicted, ICM was pretty crappy. There were only a few that I felt I definitely knew the answer to and wasn't guessing on like the others. EKG's was pretty easy though. I hope all of the ICM mini's aren't like this one???
