Ross Students leaving for AUA. Why?

    Advertisements

Why are so many Ross students leaving for AUA? There has been a great exodus to that school. Can you tell me why this is so? Especially if the are NOT failing.

    Thank you.

    Suggestion/Warning

Once again, another tired, inflammatory post from a student that didn't "make it" at Ross.

Can we have this thread LOCKED....NOW?

There is no VALUE to this thread continuing as it is was originally posted to create a negative environment.

This poster (TIGERMD) is a former/present Ross student who is trolling for someone to support his/her negative, tired feelings of inadequacy to justify his/her inability to perform at Ross.

As always, feel free to check this poster's previous posts to understand his/her motivation for posting as his/her previous behavior is easy to understand considering his/her past performance.

I implore the moderators to LOCK such transparently inflammatory posts that seek no genuine information but merely seek to "stir the pot" on this forum. All the QUALITY students at Ross are TIRED of these types of posts...consider this a suggestion/warning.

    Volthead

    To: All students

Volthead, you sound like the Ross administration. Just blame the student!

Should you, Volthead be blocked for having such a closed minded answer to my question? But I would not suggest such a thing nor would I want it. I want to challenge people like you. If you have the ability to make statements, then confront this question straight forward. That is what a health profession is about. Confront the reality of a situation and explore every posibility of betterment. I guess yours has been the Ross attitude that trickles down from its administration. I may have negative feelings, but I am not the only one. And I have "made it" at Ross. I am not the "A" student I could be with a better school environment but I am making it. The administration (which is also a lot of faculty) and its apathetic nature has impacted my studies negatively.

My actions and words may be civil disobedience but they are civil. Though you have disrespected me, I refuse to be disrespectful. This is the way to have dialogue about issues we do not agree on. You have a voice and so do I. Do not try to deny my voice as a student and human being. You cannot quiet the voice of the grieving. For every inadquate student there is also a inadquate teacher/administration. You can't clap with one hand.

I would just like to know why AUA. Why are Ross students opting for American University of Anigua Medical School?

I would entertain your response and also the response of those concerned.

    Thank you wholeheartedly.

    Don't blame the faculty

"The administration (which is also a lot of faculty) and its apathetic nature has impacted my studies negatively."

    What semester are you?

As a 4th semester student, I feel the need to defend the faculty. Even in classes with 300+ I have always managed to feel like the faculty encourages you to learn. How can you say that they impact your studies negatively? Obviously, the administration and faculty are not perfect, but that in no way means that they have a negative influence on our studies! Hey, if you don't know 50-65% of your information, just face the facts that you don't know it well enough, and repeat the course. There is no shame in repeating a class. And if you get kicked out, just face the facts and do better where you are now. Spend some time studying instead of slandering Ross on the forum. Different environments suit different students better for learning...it all depends on their needs--some students needs super quiet Dominica, some students need good food, some students need white sandy beaches????

Bottom line, to answer the question, if you want the truth...the students who left Ross to go to AUA have either failed or fear failing. Why else would you go from a credible institution to some place that is just starting and can run into licensure problems later on? There may be special circumstances like the island is better for their wife/kids, but logic still prevails.

    Ross

Personally I sometimes wish I could have went to one of the other islands that have better places to stay, better food, better utilities.... But to me it is more important to know that when I apply for residency I know that I have a good chance at getting into a decent program. I would hate to risk going to a new school that isnt liscenced in all states or that is going to be liscenced soon.... Ross has a pretty decent reputation. Right now there are residents working at a hospital in my hometown that is a branch of the University of Florida. I figure its only 16 months and it has been going pretty fast.

Actually, I will be honest and tell you that I am flat out scared of failing or getting bad grades at the least. I don't mean to speak negatively of my former school, but this is my experience. I have barely passed these last two semesters.

please, go to AUA. You blame everything but yourself. You are a part of a tiny minority.

Just withdraw. go to AUA. and try not to blame AUA, too, once you finish a semester there. I have a feeling you will be blaming every faculty and administration wherever you go. If you don't wake up now, I hope you will once you take Step 1. You may be able to pass now, but if you cant pass the usmle, nothing else will matter. Better start studying. "Do you really understand the material?".... that's the question you should be asking yourself. Not "Why are ross students leaving for AUA?"...

    AUA?

i guess that is the new place for people who couldnt hack it to run too. for awhile, it was spartan. then SMU. I had quite a few freinds who left for these places. i am now a doctor....none of them are. though with multiple transfers, I think one of them could qualify as a travel agent with a caribbean expertise. Ross is not difficult. if you cant hack it, its not Ross....its you. going elsewhere will not make a difference.

    We disagree

    We clearly disagree.

I will tell you, I have scored quite well in classes at times. I am not in danger of failing. And resorting to disrespecting words and attempting to demoralize me will not make the issues go away. They will only come back stronger.

I may transfer elsewhere but if I am unable because of financial reasons and time, I will continue to report my truth as I see it.

Your truth can be different, but slandering and prejudice will not help your case. Address my issues if you can. I can see what is right with Ross and that is mainly its long standing name in Caribbean and it's clinical rotations. But I am clearly addressing what is wrong. And the wrong in my eyes outweighs the right. This bad reputation has caught up with the schools "good" name.

Dominica could be a terrible place. I had a robbery at my place. Ross did little to ease the pain. It was hard to get help. When it came to profs, some were very discouraging and sometimes quite evil. I was a very nice person to them initially but that didn't win me any support or help. The minute I started protesting them publicly, they responded. That's what it took to get them to help. It was my last resort and it worked. No one should have to go to such an extent.

So this in essence is another protest. An unflinching protest for change. You can oppose it, but it will not go away. It matters little whether you try to caringly discuss it or hatefully bash it. I would want you to have care in your heart though. Remember what has happened to others may happen to you soon. Then you may be on my side of the fence. Regardless of whether this ever happens, I will represent against the injustice meted my Ross.

And since some of you are quite confident in your own academic abilities, I suggest you offer to help tutor and mentor those in need. Can you committ to that? Make a posting to help students in need if you are truly concerned. I hope that the Ross-like selfish desire hasn't conquered your heart. I look forward to seeing more Ross students helping their fellow classmates that are struggling.

I challenge you to post a time where you can help struggling students in even one subject. I guarantee you will have many coming to you. I am not the only one, and this will be an eye opener for you.

Clearly we have completely opposite views. I will protest against Ross and people such as you but as I said before, it will be civil disobedience. I will not badger or use personally offensive language against you as you do to me. I will remain proactive with my cause.

This is a movement for truth and justice. I refuse to be intimidated or forced away by anyone. Yet my drive will be to create more awareness and hopefully get more people to sympathize with the movement for betterment, truth and justice. The evil attitudes at Ross must end or it will be the end of Ross.

    Thank you.

    please.

Truth and justice? Please. This is school...books, handouts, exams, pure and simple. Don't make it more dramatic than it has to be. It will only stress you out even more.
