    Ortho

I am currently in an ortho residency. Graduated from Ross in '03.
    Step I: 255
    Step II: 250

Every person applying to our program this year had a 99 on Step I. It has just gotten completely ridiculous these days to get in. BUT it is not impossible.

    Wow

Just wanted to say you are the man! People like you give us all hope. Now please give me some suggestions on how to study for Step I. How long did you spend and did you use a review course?

    Step I prep

My class was the last class on the rock that was 5 semesters (no Miami). Our 5th semester was one long review course - Kaplan.
I took 1 month after the 5th semester to study before I took the exam.

hmm. if 5th semester used to be one long review course, *** are we doing now in miami? I still don't understand....
are we just wasting 9 semester units for an 'advanced' extended intro into clinicals?
Does this cut into step 1 prep time?

    Miami

5th semester was actuallyy 2 courses. The first was the semester long Kaplan course. The other was ICM II. -This included trips down to the hospital in Rosseau and other ICM stuff. Supposedly the Miami trhing came about because of a weakness in the preclinical training of students going into their clinical rotation. Some felt this was because we were not exposed to Western medicine (moreover a healthcare system that had the everyday technology you would be seeing in the US), plus more practice interviewing patients. Hence the Miami program was born.

Personally, I was offered a spot in the pilot program for the 1st Miami semester (I think 10 people eventaully went from my class). I turned it down, because I wanted to study for a full semester.

You can take Kaplan after 5th semester if you want to. I think you have 3 months off after 5th semester. The difference is you don't have Stafford loan for your Kaplan course.
