    Ross May vs September Start

    Advertisements

I've been accepted to the may starting class and was wondering if anyone knew of any advantage of starting in may vs september? Is it true that the minimum passing score for the may class is lower than septembers, thus easier to pass a class if you are on the border?
Is it easier to get your preferred rotations site if you start in may as well? Just looking for any pros/cons to starting in each semester, thanks!

There is really not a pros/cons. You may not know the whole Ross process yet as far as the basic science on the island. It is quite different as far as the curriculum vs. US med school. All I can say is prepare yourself for a tough semester. Each semester is different and get's harder than the next. The Minimum passing score for each semester is different for each and will not be predicted based on the starting semester. On top of the MPS, there is a discipline min score for each subject that you have to pass in order to promote to the next semester. The only thing that is relevant is the class size, May class size seems to be the smallest class of the three. Rotations are another thing and availability always changes depending on which month you are starting IMF(pre rotation semester). Because some people will pass the comp the 1st time and will have their rotation start but most will pass the second time and will have a different set of hospital rotations to choose from.

Are the minimum required scores based of performance of the students taking that exam? In other words, if may has a generally weaker class (I read they perform slightly worse than their september conterparts) does that mean the mps or discipline min score will be less for that may semester?

Because some people will pass the comp the 1st time and will have their rotation start but most will pass the second time and will have a different set of hospital rotations to choose from.
Does this give the may starting class more leeway to wait for the rotations that they are interested in. For example, if a student is very interested in a certain hospital for their core rotations for third year, aren't they more likely to get it because their class size is smaller so less competition and they have the luxury of waiting for it if its not available yet?

    Thanks in advanced

Did you read the question or are you trying to advertise something? From your post I don't see a relevant reply. Please keep threads on topic.

To the OP May class affords you 4 months leeway with which to accomplish things if you get held back, fail comp, fail step, have rotation issues, etc to still match on time. Sept semester you basically have to do everything back to back with smaller breaks. It can be done but May leaves extra time. That being said if you go straight through like I did and end up with 6 months between graduation and starting residency you run out of $ quick and have nothing to do. No one wants a 5 mo employee who is either overqualified or they know will leave them shortly after training.
