    shipping stuff

    Advertisements

I've looked about 7 pages deep and saw nothing about this, so I hope I'm not asking a question that has been asked recently.

how have people had things shipped from their home, to the island? I've heard there are things similar to Pods that get packed up and delivered to the island weeks/months later. I've heard these are popular because price is independent of weight, so if it fits, it ships. Does anyone know anything about these or any other advice on shipping stuff to the island? cost? Timetable?

Any comments, links, recommendations would be appreciated!

Here are some links I've found. The second link gives a rough estimate of shipping costs. louisiana2dominica.wordpress.com/preparing-for-the-move/shipping dominicaorbust.wordpress.com/thebigmove From what I gathered on my own, "if it fits, ships" refers to Tropical Shipping. According to the company's website, departure from Miami to arrival in Dominica takes 1 week. You probably need to add in more time for container preparation and their shipping schedule. The most convenient way to ship to yourself is through the US Postal Service via Express International Shipping. Packages will be sent to the local post office where you can pick it up yourself. The threads on this site suggests 3-4 weeks being the common time frame. The other carrier options require hiring out Alexis Taxi to pick up and pay for your shipments at their off campus locations. I'll have to verify this info with the student ambassadors and coordinators when the time comes.

thanks for the reply. I have seen the first blog before, but not the second. I was a bit surprised when I saw that the people from the second blog payed almost $1K to bring stuff over. I was hoping to get away cheaper then that, but with a wife and 2 kids...I'm not so sure that will happen.

I've done some other research and Amerijet is another company I've seen pop up. Luckily they have a drop of center here in Nor Cal, so i'll look into it and post info if anyone is interested. I know people post about shipping here and there, but sometimes updated information is good too.

    Thanks for your help!

Hey, Ive already shipped several barrels here with tropical shipping. If the barrel gets to Miami by Tuesday, they will ship it the next day and it will arrive the following Wednesday. You go to Alexis taxi and sign s release form and they will go pick it up for you and deliver it straight to your living room. Very reliable service and never had an issue. Pm if you need more details or have specific questions.
