    Rotation sites San Antonio, Texas

    Advertisements

    Hi,

I am an IMG (non-caribbean) and now looking for externships in San Antonio area, Texas.

I am looking for outpatient clinics/doctors (internal medicine and family medicine) where Caribbean students rotate so I can contact the office and inquire about externship opportunities.
The more hands-on experience I get the better it is, so busier establishments are my priority, though less busier may also work as LORs count either way.

I am not from Texas and will be coming there just for this purpose. For various reasons, I can only be at San Antonio area.
Will appreciate if anyone can share any contacts (or pm me, whatever you prefer).

    Thanks,

That's going to be very tough to do if associated with any medical school. Texas has passed many laws restricting IMG rotations in the state.

I believe to rotate in texas the texas school has to have an explicit agreement with the international medical school for rotations. So I am not aware of anyone rotating there.

    thx,

Generally, some doctors just allow IMGs to do externship at their clinic privately. They require malpractice insurance etc and charge a fees. I was hoping I find a doctor who allows that. Doctors that are already participating in rotation programs as mentors are more likely to allow.

How does Texas compare with Georgia in terms of such regulations?

I know Georgia is a bit more lax but won't hurt to check around San Antonio first. Good luck.

I rotated in san antonio (UTHSCSA) as a 4th year student, but i was technically a med student at the time.
Actually I did half my rotations during 4th year in the state of Texas. Easily possible, and it's simple as filling out a form.
