    MERP April 2015

    Advertisements

I recently found out that I have been offered MERP for April 2015. I know it's still a bit away, considering the most recent group just started and there is still a December class, but if you are going to Miramar in April feel free to drop a line and introduce yourself. The student coordinator mentioned he would be making a FB group, but not for a little while. If you have any advice on where to stay or are looking for a roommate, feel free to leave a comment and maybe we can figure something out. Congrats ya'll and see you in April!

Check this off campus housing site out. I'd be interested in sharing a spot with a roommate.

This is concerning. Those of you in MERP need to really evaluate your lives. Let me give you some real "facts" which are partially anecdotal. First off, MERP is a huge rip off and in my opinion a complete waste of $15,000. Secondly, you should also realize that of all the people, regardless if they completed the MERP program or gained immediate admittance, roughly 50 to 60% of those who start first semester will graduating from Ross. Of that 50 to 60%, I would say more than half will have some red flags on their residency application (e.g. Failed semester, repeat USMLE, borderline GPA, mediocre letters of rec, ect). Fact is, just BEING an FMG , US or not, will be a red flag for nearly every decent residency program in every field.

I am not saying you can't complete school and get a residency position but you should know that the odds are not in your favor and honestly your chances will decrease each year due to increased US medical students. Trust me, a mediocre U.S. MD or DO student will always be preferred over a great Ross graduate and that is just the cold, hard truth. If you have any uncertainties or know in your gut that you are just going to Ross for convenience, I would be very honest with myself and bow out because in the end, do you want to begin a career or risk making a 300,000 dollar "life lesson?"

I'm not trolling, just giving you guys something to consider. Good luck.
