    5th semester in Miramar advice

    Advertisements

So I found out today I got accepted (transfer student) into Ross 5th semester at Miramar. Any tips for success from recent students who did 5th there? What is a typical day like and how will I be evaluated?

Also, is there a message board or service Ross students use to find safe and affordable housing in the area?

    Thanks.

Starting in September 2014, 5th Semester aka AICM will be called Internal Medicine Foundations (IMF) and will be offered six times per academic year for six weeks each session. It will count 6 weeks of clinical rotation toward 90 weeks of clinical rotations in order to graduate. The new change is that you must sit for Step 1 before starting IMF. The content and learning objectives will not change but will be in much more efficient format.

You will take BLS, ACLS and PALS certification courses during IMF. You will learn how to perform head-to-toe physical examination (165 checkpoints) in less than 40 minutes. You will learn and practice interview, perform physical exam and write notes -- simulating a patient encounter like you would in a Step 2 CS exam. You will learn how to do rounds and present to attending, how to write and present SOAP notes, learn few procedures like basic suturing, IV catheter insertion, foley catheter insertion, pelvic examination, scrubbing in for OR, etc. You will also go out to your assigned clinical site and spend the day with your preceptor for four hours once a week throughout the IMF session. Do NOT blow off written exams, although they are not heavily weighted but if you fail either midterm or final, you fail the rotation.

Ross Housing has a database for students to find temporary housing for AICM.

Thanks for the advice. Ross clinical department seems good so far; I have been scheduled for all my cores. Are any of the Ross clinical affiliations in New York or Florida particularly good or bad? Those are the two states I prefer to rotate in.
