Canadian Ross graduate getting residency in States

    Advertisements

    Hi there fellow doctors,
looking into different forums I really could not find a good answer to my question. Knowing that getting matched for residency for IMGs is usually difficult itself, I'm just wondering how hard is it for a Canadian IMG (Ross graduate) to get a residency spot in States?
All sorts of answers are appreciated!
Btw I'm not a graduate student yet but am looking for some insight.

Definintely possible and still relies mostly on your ablilities and performance. That being said you will need a visa to practice here which definitely limits options as not all programs are willing to sponsor visas (usually don't want the hassles of dealing with the US Government and risk not having a resident start on July 1). Hope that helps.

For a Canadian, it's easier to get a spot in the US than to get a residency spot back in Canada. There are a lot of programs that sponsor visas. Keep in mind that it is harder as a Canadian to get a spot compared to an American IMG though but really it depends on your step scores and your recommendation letters.
