NBME COMP vs. NBME Self Assessment

    Advertisements

The following is a list of questions that the NBME would not answer. I was hoping that someone may have additional insight.

    1) Why are the Self Assessment scores reported as raw and the actually COMP scaled?

    2) I tired receiving my raw score from my first COMP attempt and was told they no longer give out that information. Has anyone ever received their raw score and compared it to their scaled score?

Last time I checked, copyright laws protect exam content not the raw performance of the student taking the exam.

    Thanks!!!!

i guess since its a private company they can release or withhold anything they want, to preserve their intellectual property? Im sure you have to sign a Terms of Use agreement before you take the test, right?

yeah sorry can't answer that. I doubt anyone here can unless they have previously researched this and/or contacted a lawyer.

When you take the Comp, you are being compared to everyone else who is taking that particular exam (and they do change the questions from exam to exam) at that time. So the scores can be scaled. The Self Assessment is your score only, so there can't be any scaling or comparing your score with others. Or so I've been told.

Reporting raw scores has absolutely nothing to do with intellectual property!

The 'Terms' for the COMP exam are no different than the honor pledge you sign on a Ross Mini.
