    Timing of Step 2 CS

    Advertisements

    Hello,

How important is it to have a passing CS by Sept 1? I know each program is diff., but overall, do programs not offer a candidate (especially us IMGs) an interview if they don't have it by Sept 1? If I take it in Aug, the score report period is between Oct 13 and Nov 10...Is that too late?? Thanks in advance for your responses!!!

I can't speak for all programs on how they select their interview candidates, but I took my CS at the end of July and didn't have my CS results by September 1st. I received plenty of interview invitations before I even received my CS and CK results. My best guess would be to inquire with the programs you're interested in applying to and asking them what they require in this regard.
Then again, I like to think of anything stupid I've done as a "learning experience." It makes me feel less stupid. PJ O'Rourke.

My advice, is to have your score in (if possible) before September 1. There are programs that will not grant IMGs an interview until your CS score is in. How many? I'm not sure... However, usually better programs require your CS score prior to granting you an interview (not all of them though).

Additionally, having your application complete will only improve your chances. And b/c the CS is not bad at all... there's no reason not to take it (unless financial). For the CS, give yourself about 2 weeks to review the FristAid for CS and practice with someone (and as long as you speak English and don't treat the patients like crap), there's no reason you won't pass.

So, definitely take it before you apply... and try to time it where your scores will be in before September. Each year it's becoming more and more competitive... Put yourself in the best position possible! Good luck with the match!!
