    Router help..

    Advertisements

I brought my A/B Linksys wireless router from the states, but upon plugging it in, it does not work.

I'm technical enough to make my wireless router secure, but I'm not sure what needs to be done to fix my current problem. I'd like some ideas and perhaps some direction.

I went to log into the router and I typed in the default linksys router 192.168.1.1 and it appears that the happens to be the same IP address of the incoming cable and wireless internet signal.

I'm thinking that could be why I cannot get internet through router. I can only make it work if its directly plugged in.

    Any help?

Configure the router w/o the "internet" cable plugged in. You should be able to access the router, if not, do a hard reset of the router by holding the little button on the back for a while. The only config you should need to do is securing the wireless access.

plug the "internet in" cable from your wall into one of the LAN out ports. usually that will fix the issue. The problem is your building is already being split using the 192.168.1.xx ip addresses, so when your router is trying to configure it is trying to use the same already taken ip addresses. When you plug th inet into the LAN out the router uses 10.110.1.xx and that should give open ip addresses to your computer and work just fine

Go look at the thread called ISP info. I was having the same issues and there's a lot of good help there.
