    Email Setup for iPhone

    Advertisements

Anyone know how to setup an iPhone to receive school email back in the States? I'm in 10th semester and am using the Miami server. For some reason I was able to setup my blackberry to receive school email, but I cannot seem to figure out setting up the email to go to my new iPhone.

Ok, after playing around with various configurations, I was successful in setting up the iPhone to get Ross E-mail. Here's how to set it up if you are in clinicals since you will be on the Miami server...

    Click on
Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Add account ---> Other ---> add mail account

Name: whatever you want to call it (eg Med School E-Mail)
Address: [email protected] (do not put dm at the end)
Password: (whatever this will be for you)
Description: (this will fill out on its own, so don't do anything to this field)

    Click save

You will be asked to enter IMAP settings...

    INCOMING MAIL SERVER

    Host Name: webmail.rossmed.edu
User Name: (only your first and last name, no need to put rossdm_students)
    Password: (put in your password)

    OUTGOING MAIL SERVER

    Host Name: webmail.rossmed.edu
User Name: (only your first and last name, no need to put rossdm_students)
    Password: (put in your password)

Click save and this should do it. You may have to go back into your mail account in settings and select the rossmail account and turn it on once you do all of the above.

Kind of off topic..but do you guys find it is necessary to have a smartphone with email etc during your rotations? Or does it just make life a bit easier?

It makes life easier. I've owned pretty much all the major smartphones. I started 5th semester and my first rotation using just a Palm PDA, which was good for only epocrates or Tarascon pharmacopia. Beyond that, it was just a glorified address book and planner. I moved to the blackberry both the older model and the storm which again was good for epocrates and pharmacopia, but having Internet browsing capabilities was a good option, although on blackberry the browser sucks and is slow. Being able to send and recieve emails is probably the best feature to have especially during match season when you are sending and receiving emails from programs. I switched to the iPhone last week and by far this is the best. There's just more compatible medical software and apps and the internet browser is much faster than the blackberry. This makes it easier to look stuff up online if you are not close to a desktop.

In a nutshell a smartphone is not necessary but it does make life easier. Plus if you are at one of those hospitals that block the Internet from students on their computers, at least you have access to the Internet regardless.

If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.
