    just finished

just finished at JPH. your question is vague, but i acn tell you this. medicine is good, especially if you are with dr *****. he makes you act like a resident. his specialty is cardio, so you get heavy cardio experience, possibly at the expens oif other stuff, but the patient population at JPH is such that you will still see all the stuff you need. **** is great for OB-GYN, he teaches excellently, and he gave me about 50 points on step 2. the only problem is JPH tends to have low birth counts. we were lucky, my group had a "post 9-11" baby boom, with a 700% increase in deliversy. he is good with hands on stuff too. GI is good there, as is nephro. peds is strictly clinic. no in-patient. psych is bad., which is a shame, as JPH is the biggest psych place in chicago. cook county sends ther psych there! FP is good there also.

    jackson park

thanks jim. I just wanted some feedback about what a student should expect at jackson park in terms of clinical experience. it seems like you got a great deal of learning experience there, so that's good. you mentioned medicine and FP were good, but what about surgery? i've also heard OB-GYN at st. anthony's was good, is that true? and lastly, i know the hospital is located in an urban area, any tips on safety issues?

    thanks again.

    JPh again

the new policy is that you cant do cores at st anthonys and be guaranteed all your cores at JPH. you can schedule OB last of your cores though and come back to JPH. anthonys is good for hands on OB. surgery is weak, only because of volume. dr ***** rarely doens much more then scopes, bautista is better. he does it all. as everything else in the hospital, you spend a lot of time waiting for things to get prepped.as for safety, lets just say..you sure arent on the rock. dont walk around at night. dont leave the building at night without a security guard. dont take public transportation. always be aware of your surroundings. and remember, unlike dominica, if they ask for money, and you dont give it, you are not going to be graduating!

Wow, it seems like we should be more worried about our 3rd and 4th years rather than our first 16 months in Dominica.
